Hi J.,
For the fonts, when you downloaded them you should have 'saved' them in a folder or location. You can't usually save directly to your 'font folder', so you would probably saved them to either 'my documents' or on your desktop. Depending on your computer - You may have default downloaded them to a temp folder - in which case you will need to download them over and make sure that when the download box comes up you change the location to your desktop (or wherever you can get to them in order to move them to your font folder - I suggest your desktop).
If it's a zip file - when your zip program unzips it - you can just slide the font file over onto your desktop - don't worry about the 'readme' file or any other folders - you just need the file with the font name.
Once the file is on your desktop you can then open your font folder (from "start" / "control panel" / "fonts") then you just drag and drop the file into the font folder. It may leave a copy on the desktop - once it's in your font folder you can just delete it from wherever it was.
Hope that helps.
As far as the other question - you might be thinking about using a 'dye-cut'????
Good luck.
