My son has about a dozen bumps all over his body. They look like bug bites. He has one in his scalp, three on his face, and the rest are on his arms, legs and back. He had infantigo a few months ago, but it doesn't look like that and those marks were mostly around his nose and mouth. I'm searching his room and bed for a mosquito, ant, etc and found nothing. Any ideas?
Thank you for your responses. We just got back from the doctor and it turned out to be a mild case of chicken pox. Even though it's mild, he will be out of school for the week (and me away from work, yikes!) At least he does not feel miserable, so I'm thankful for that.
I would love to know what they are also. Both of my kids have them 11 and 7. They look like little ant bites and they are all over their arms and a few on their legs. I asked their doctor about it and I can't remember what he said but he was not to concerned.

I don't know that I would worry about the bites as I would about making sure that the child's hands are uber clean because impateigo is a form of staph. Staph virus grows most often in the nose, ears, armpits, and anal areas. Also be careful because the symptoms of brown recluse bites are the same as staph and it is often mistaken as a spider bite when it probably started as an ant or misquito bite.
If your pediatrician did not refer you to an infectious disease specialist when he was diagnosed with impateigo he/she should have and I would recommend that you keep a very close eye on the situation and if there is any swelling and hardness under the skin where the bites are, I would skip the pediatrician and go directly to the infectious disease specialist to make sure it is not staph because the sores should not be punctured, etc. and really require treatment by a doctor that specializes in the field. I wound up in the hosptal due to staph and the nurses were horrified that neither my daugher's pediatrician sent her to the specialist nor did my doctor when I wound up with it from treating her.
Could he be getting a mild case of the chicken pox? They can still get a mild case with the shot, especially if they didn't get a booster.
Did he play in the grass yesterday? Could it be chiggers?
I hate to say it, but it sounds like you need to double check to make sure it is not staph! Esp. given his recent bout with infantigo! My nephew had similar spots, and it indeed was a form of staph. Better to be safe than sorry right!! ~A.~
Def need to take to the dr... like asap! my neice had lumps that looked like bites on her neck and turned out to be leukemia. not to make you panic, but anything odd should always be checked out i think! even when it turns out to be nothing at all! better safe! best luck!
I would also suggest an infectious disease doctor. Cooks has an office downtown. My daughter has had recurrent MRSA staph infections since April. We have found a great pediatrician in Decatur. If you are near there, e-mail me, I will be glad to share her info. I don't know where you are located. We went to 4 doctors prior to finding our new one. Our experience was they prescribed Bactrim (one did nothing) and didn't inform me that it was contagious. Our new pediatrician and infectious disease specialist gave us a regimen to follow when she has a break-out. Until you know what it is, don't share towels with him and keep his and your hands washed. I would ask your doctor to culture the bumps to see what it is. If they put him on antibiotics prior to the culture, they won't be able to tell what it is.

my 2 dd had this a few weeks ago!!! I thought it was from the farm. My dad is a farmer and he had just gotten in from the farm and she was playing with him. Anyways I consulted my bff who is an lvn and he suggested it might be chicken pox bc they looked like they had little heads inside the bumps.He also suggested I have her soak in an Aveeno oatmeal bath. I went to the supermarket adn just got the off brand oatmeal bath and after two baths she was completely fine and they healed up. The store brand had the exact same ingredients and was alot cheaper than Aveeno!!!!!! I completely understand I went crazy cleaning and disinfecting and still never found anything that gave me a clue that there was a bug or mosquito. Good luck!!!!
I had my almost 14 yr old in the Dr. office today for a bump that did not look right. Actually, I took a picture of it and emailed the Dr. on Sun night and she told me to be at her door asap when it opened today.
Turns out that it is a staph infection and we are awaiting results on what strain. In the mean time, she is on a potent dose of antibiotics for 7 days.
I have a good feeling about the antibiotics working because I have one of those kids who has rarely been since and the strongest antibiotic she has ever taken has been Augmentin which was about 3 yrs ago. She has only had antibiotics about 5 times in her life so I am hoping this one they gave her today does the job.
In the meantime,,,,we are awaiting the results.....

Could be chickenpox? I would take him to the doctor to rule out anything.
