Ok..have a second question tonight.

My youngest daughter ever since she was maybe 6-8 months olds has always had this thing where she put her hands up to her mouth and almost shivers. (Almost like she is scared of something, hard to explain) She does it at odd times, like when she is watching a movie or tv, when she watches her sister dance, it happens when she is tired, but can also happen out of the blue when she is just sitting in the car or anywhere. It isn't like a seizure because you can say her name and she'll stop and answer you. And her eyes are in tact, she is fully conscious during this.

I've brought this up to her pediatrician, I've even showed him how/what exactly she does. (Although she has never done it in front of him) He asked questions to see if they were seizure like symptoms but says if her eyes are in tact and she is responding during them, he really doesn't believe them to be seizures. I have told him I've wanted to video tape them, and he is interested in me sending him a video. (I just told him about these episodes at her 3 year check up) I haven't caught a video because every time I turn my camera on my phone, it chimes and this distracts her and she stops doing this thing she does. I swear it happens every time I've tried to video tape it.

Has anyone heard of something like this or any experience with this. I've tried searching online for anything similar and haven't found anything. Obviously, it hasn't concerned me too much as I've just told her doctor about them, but it does have me curious. I have had people point it out to me and ask what she is doing. She is going to start school in the fall...and I'm sure she'll be doing it there. Some of my family think its maybe just a thing she does like someone would suck their thumb...but I just don't know.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much, its so good to hear others have seen or experienced this type of thing. My phone video seems to be the only camera I have on hand when I get the chance to video tape it. It doesn't last long and I have to act quick. But I am going to keep trying to catch her so that I can pass it on to her Dr. Thanks again everyone!

I know when my sister's baby was doing odd things, turning blue and passing out for no reason, she posted a video of it online, and then was directed to a bunch of others like it which helped diagnose her baby. Do you have a friend who has a quieter camera that you could borrow for a week or something, or turn the phone on in another room?

sounds like it could be a tic. tics dont always mean tourettes. even 'normal' kids get them sometimes and tics do come and go so she could grow out of it too.

My children both do this... we call it "shaky face". They do it when they are excited about something or really concentrating on a task (like coloring). My daughter (now 5 1/2) does it less frequently than she did when she was younger but she still does it at times. I found it somewhat strange but as the kids seemed okay in every other aspect, I didn't worry about it too much. Some questions were raised in preschool, but when my daughter was observed by the school psychologist, nothing was found to be wrong. When I see my kids getting really "shaky" I call them out of it. Otherwise I just let it go. I think it is something they will grow out of eventually.

I personally shiver at random times... like an involuntary shiver up the spine... I can't stop it but I can talk to you and such. You should start puttin your phone on vibrate all so if it happens your camera won't chirp.

When I was younger, I had a friend that would do something like this. We would jsut be sitting on the porch or coloring or playing a game. She would put her hands up to her mouth and do some kind of shiver thing. One day I asked her why she did that. She told me that she does that when she is happy and that her mom said she did that ever since she was a baby. I think it was a way for her to control herself instead of getting loud. I have never seen anyone else do it.

Hi my daughter does this too! She will be 11 next month, but she also has "Absence seizures, ADHD, bipolar mood disorder & ODD, learning disability, slight speech impairment." She see's specialist a DeVous in G.R. Maybe she needs to see/have some test's done. We didn't realize our daughter was having seizures until she was 4. There's so many different types of seizures, which we didn't know of. My husband has what they call Grand Mall these are the worse. Found out when our daughter was 5 that she had all this other stuff too. Alot of these specialist won't see you with out a referral from you family phys. If you do get her tested and they find nothing then it's a blessing. And maybe it's just a nervous tick. Any how good luck. Maybe see if someone has a camcorder you can barrow too.
The video will also help the specialist if you see them.
