Has anyone ever had an ocular migraine? If so, what were your main symptoms? Did your doctor run tests to see what was causing the ocular migraines? Were there definitive results or did the doctor just rule out other possibilities (high blood pressure, etc)? What triggers your ocular migraines?

Thanks!

Yes. I get "auras," tunnel vision, and sometimes complete vision loss followed about 80% of the time with extreme, stabbing pain on one side of my head, vomiting, and sensitivity to light.
My triggers included birth control pills and a specific flower (hyacinth). I have found that they have gone away almost completely since I have been off the pill, off caffeine, and stay away from hyacinths. I never had a full work up since I was told that less than 6 a year was not frequent enough to warrant a specialist.

In a nutshell, my husband had them for years and I FINALLY figured out WHY! We started to get him adjusted by a chiropractor immediately when the migraines came on. It stopped it dead in its tracks....but it didn't retreat. One day, he started to get one, but didn't realize it, when he pulled out in front of car he didn't see! He had 2 Coke's that day....and no water. DEHYDRATION! We got him adjusted immediately AND gave him (40 pellets)Hyland's Bioplasma to him and the migraine was gone within 7-10 minutes!

I have had migraines my whole life. About seven years ago, I started having neurological problems...blurred vision in left eye, left-side weakness, tinglilng, and tremors. Totally freaked me out. They checked me for a brain tumor and MS. No answers. No diagnosis, though I had a great neurologist who basically said there is a lot about the brain we do not understand, but I have ruled out all the serious stuff. About five years later, the intermittent blurred vision became more severe, so I went to the opthamologist. She checked my eyes and saw nothing wrong, but bless her soul she asked if I ever had migraines. I said yes and she explained that she thought I was having ocular migraines. I now know that I get regular migraines, silent migraines, ocular migraines and my least favorite, cluster headaches. I am on Maxalt for when the migraines are bad and it is a miracle drug. My triggers are stress, dehydration, hormones shifts, cigarette smoke, flashing lights and roof tar, among others. I am getting pretty good at predicting the silent (non-pain migraine) because I get strong food cravings, fatigue and an overall strange feeling....clearly neurological. It has been wonderful to feel like I understand what is happening to my body whereas before I did not realize what my auras and prodrome were like. Before, it would cause great anxiety. Now I tell my husband what is happening at I can take a break to rest and take care of myself.

Good luck!

One:

We are researching this for my 9 year old son. We have taken him to an optometrist, opthamalogist and Johns Hopkins - because he has pain in his right eye - however - when he gets this pain - his eye does NOT turn red, it does not weep, discharge anything - gives NO OUTWARD appearance of problems....

MRIs and CAT scans reveal nothing. we are stumped.

I get ocular migraines and have gotten them from time to time for many years. I do not get headaches though, just the fuzzy vision. It's terribly annoying. I might have to try the Hyland's Biopladma as someone suggested next time I get one. My eye dr said it wasn't anything to worry about, probably cuz they aren't that frequent (couple times a year) and I don't get headaches.

Just had my first migraine before Christmas. I was feeling fine when suddenly part of my visual field was missing and I saw constant zig zags of flashing neon lights. I would look at my kids and part of their faces were missing. Scared me to death! I went to the ER, had a CT scan of my head, developed a terrible left side of the head headache while there. The CT was negative so the ER Dr reassured me that this was a migraine. Had I not had a horrible headache, the ER Dr insisted I would have needed a follow-up MRI to look for other neurological causes. My endocrinologist treating my subacute thyroiditis (thyroid inflammation caused by a cold/flu virus) thinks that my thyroid fluctuations (I was hyperthyroid and later hypothyroid) triggered the migraine. Hormone fluctuations are common triggers. Thankfully, my thyroid is healing and I haven't had another migraine.
