OB Who Is on Call for Him/her Self (Not Part of a Group)

Hello all! I am new to Mamasource, and 6 weeks pregnant with our third child. My OB no longer delivers, and I live in Pickerington. Does anyone know of an OB who is on call for him/her self? My biggest fear is delivering this baby with a doctor I have never laid eyes on before. I have been referred to Dr. Olah at Columbus OB/GYN, and have heard good things about the practice in general. I still can't get away from that 1 doctor, small office feel though. Anyone have any names to throw at me? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi L.
I go to Dr. Stephen Richards. His office is at Easton. He is great! His office's website is: www.womankindhealth.com. When I was pregnant, he practiced with Dr. Balaloski. They just added a third OB/GYN to their office. It's a lady but I cannot remember her name. Anyway, Dr. Richards and Dr. B are great! I am very comfortable with either of them. Dr. Richards also specializes in high-risk pregnancies (which mine was). He always took his time to speak to me and is so personable. I had to have surgery in my 15th or 16th week of pregnancy and Dr. Richards recommended the best OB/GYN oncologist and worked closely with him. Dr. Richards was always very peaceful which helped me tremendously. I would highly recommend you meet with any OB/GYN before you decide to go to one. In Dr. Richards practice, you will meet all three doctors but one of them will be your main contact whoever you choose). The doctors want to ensure that you are comfi with all of them. I have 4 friends that went to Dr. Richards office throughout their pregnancies. 1 of them was with Dr. Balaloski and the other 3 with Dr. Richards and all 4 of them were extremely satisfied.
I know you said that you want a doctor who is practicing by himself b/c you don't want a doctor (to deliver your baby) that you have never laid eyes on before. I would just say, when you have a couple of doctors in your OB/GYN's office and you like all of them, the chances of the hospital doctor on staff delivering your baby is less likely. With just one doctor, you never know if he/she will be available at the time of delivery. With multiple doctors in your OB/GYN's office the chance of having to deliver with the hospital doctor is smaller.
By the way, congratulations on your pregnancy.

Hi L.,

I just went thru this when I found out I'm expecting my second child this Feb & I was also referred to Columbus OB/GYN. When I went in for my first appt with the OB coordinator I asked about this because with my first pregnancy I had a practice with 6 different docs so I made sure to have at least 1 appt with each before delivery. Since Columbus OB/GYN has so many I wanted to get started meeting them right away. The coordinator explained to me that while there are different drs the one you pick to be "your" dr will be with you for the whole process, all appts, labor, delivery, postpartum, etc. I actually picked Dr. Olah & she confirmed that she will be my doctor for everything. The only time I may talk to someone else is if I call with a question after hours but if I were referred to the hospital, she would meet me there, not the dr on the phone. Does that make sense? Also, I'm very happy with Dr. Olah, she's been great so far. Good luck & I hope that helps!

Dr. Stephen Turner. He is at 3500 Livingston Ave. near James Rd. He has delivered both of my babies and is wonderful. This is a private practice for him. His phone # is ###-###-####.

L.,
I see Dr. Kurup with the same practice. I was very pleased with the entire process of the birth of my son. I saw the same doctor and nurse with each visit and when I went into labor, the hospital paged my doctor. I did, however, have an issue early in my pregnancy where I called the doctor on call (it was after office hours) and I spoke with Dr. Olah at that time. I was very comfortable with the advice she gave me and her attitude towards me even though I wasn't "her" patient. Maybe you can just go in and meet with Dr. Olah to see how things feel. You might be suprised:)

Hi L.,
I don't have a name for you but if you end up going with a practice, you could make appts with the other drs in the group (personally I'd do it for the basic appts when you're just getting weighed and measured - that type of thing ;-)
We're on the northeast side of town so I don't know if a name would help you out. But I really like my dr. He wasn't on call when my first arrived but the dr who was did a fine job - though I wish I had seen some of the other drs so that I would have met her beforehand. The second time some of my appts were with the other drs but I had a scheduled induction so I got my dr.
Hope that helps.
Good Luck!

I would suggest Dr. Frank Isabelle. He is in practice in an office where he is the only OB/GYN. He is an older doctor and he totally puts you at ease. Women's Contemporary Health is the name of the practice I believe.
