Hello Moms,
Could you share your experience with NuvaRing? Or suggest what works the best for you.
I have always use the pill and lately /actually the last year/ I am catching myself almost never taking it on time, skipping day, then taking two at once, just kind of dragging it.
My Doctor recommended NuvaRing. I am just not sure yet – should I try something else, the ring, or continue on pills.
I will appreciate your advise.
Thank you.

I have had no problems with the nuva ring. I have been using it since febuary. I think it could be benefitical to you. Espically since you have been missing the pill. You are taking a big risk missing the pill. The ring is applied once a month.that is very convient. You have to choose what works best for you. Goodluck....T.

I have never tried the ring but have tried every other form of birthcontrol and I liked the shot since I just had to go in every 3 months to get it and no periods!!. My cousin recommended it and has been on it for about 4 years. It was wonderful. Good luck. J.

Hi S.,

I have not used the ring personally but an OB/GYN that I worked with highly recommends it. Because it only releases hormones in the uterus, it does not have the systemic side-effects that the pill does. The only disadvantage is that it can fall out depending on the activity you are doing, but if you insert it back in, it is not an issue.

Hope that helps!

I did not like the ring. I had so many side effect. Hair loss, mood swings, it was an awful time. The concept was great not having to worry about anything for the month. Also, download a reminder on your desktop so when you log in it tells you how many days til your next ring. Good luck!

I have used the Nuvaring for 3 yrs now. I like it much better than the pills, plus the pills didn't work for me.

My friend was on NuvaRing but found it on the floor a few times-- it had actually slipped out! She's now pregnant with their third, much to her chagrin. I'm not sure if she had inserted it improperly or not, so just make sure that you do it correctly!

Hi. I just tried the ring myself. I'm on my second month. I think it's great. I've tried so many different kinds of pills and they all made me nauseous. With the ring, you just put it in and forget it for 3 weeks. Then you take it out the week of your period, then put a new one in afterwards. I don't feel it and my husband says he doesn't feel it either. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have used the nuva ring since the birth of my daughter 3 years ago. I love it, its comfortable, you dont feel it and you only have to remember to take it out once every three weeks and then install a new one the fourth week. My sister also just starting using it as well and is equally as pleased.

I have been using it the past 3-4 years. I was using it for about 2-3 years before I got pregnant. After coming off, I was pregnant within 2 months. I am now using it again. Seems like there are a lot of posts and I am surprised that no one mentioned that you can go 4 weeks with the ring and then just put a new one in--skipping your period. My doctor actually recommended this to me. However, I do have to say that after a few months I start to spot and need to have a period. So, usually I go three month changing the ring every four weeks, then go off for a week for a period and then go back on for a few months. Hope that makes sense. Works great.

I have been on the pill, the patch, and Nuva Ring.

Nuva Ring was my favorite for several reasons:
It was easy to remember, it was convenient, it only came out once or twice when it wasn't supposed to.....

HOWEVER....

I would caution that I believe it may cause infertility problems or delays in fertility that haven't been investigated very thoroughly yet. I say this because with my first daughter I got pregnant immediately and with this pregnancy it took a year after coming off of the Nuva Ring to conceive. We have been tested and have no known fertility problems, I did not have excessive stressors, etc. and feel like the blame might be that of the Nuva Ring (with my first pregnancy I came off the pill and was pregnant the next cycle.)

So this may be something to consider. I did not realize that they had taken the patch off of the market, as another poster stated, but I did have probs with the patch constantly coming off, sticky residue on my skin, rashes, and mood swings.

IUDS sound like the best option to me and that is what I am planning for at this point after the birth of the baby I'm now pregnant with. I have heard that SOME women do have reactions to them, but it sounds like the majority don't even know they are there.

If you're not satisfied with answers or time taken with you by your OB/GYN, try contacting a CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife.) They are usually covered the same by insurance and can prescribe and examine you just the same, but are sometimes more "woman friendly" if you know what I mean!

I've been using it for the last 4-5 years and love it. it's not for the squeamish who don't like to touch themselves b/c the way u have to insert it. But I have no problem - it's my body! No side effects, no sensation of it, and it's just wonderful.
I used to be on the pill and kept forgetting to take it! Mirena is a good idea too, but it can cause more spotting and cramping than the simple NuvaRing.
Many patients at my old job used to love NuvaRing and it's one of the more popularly used contraceptives these days, because of its ease of use. good luck in your decision.

I would recommend the nuva ring to anyone. I was like you and never took my pills on time and the pill made me a bit crazy. The nuva ring on the other hand is awesome. My hormones are a lot better and you leave it in for 3 weeks and take it out then wait a week and put a fresh one in. At first it was weird but now that I have had the ring for more than a year now, it's a sinch. I have not had anyproblems with it at all. My cramps are better and my mood swings are a lot better. I hope that helps and good luck.Oh before i forget, this might be a little personal but it does rub the guy's raw sometimes. It is okay to take it out while you have intercourse and then you can put it back in if it gets to be a pain. That is the only thing that i have found that could be annoying, but other than that it is great.

I don't know anything about the NuvaRing, when I questioned it with my doctor she suggested an IUD - the one that i have stays in for 5 years, and now I no longer get a period....that's a plus. Good luck with your search for the right birth control.

I'm not sure how you feel about IUDs...but I am getting mirena. It's good for 5 years (or shorter if you like)...and it's supposed to lighten or even eliminate your monthly friend. That might be something to look into to. I was having issues with my birth conrol pills causing really bad migraines, so I am unable to take them. My health insurance is also covering it 100% (save my copay). So it also eleminates the overall cost of going to get Birth control from the pharmacy. Good luck with your decision.

I used the NuvaRing for 2 years. I thought it was great. Only had to think about it when it needed to come out and when to insert the new one. Mine came with a little timing device that I kept in the bathroom. It would beep at the 3 week mark and then again 1 week later. I currently have the Mirena IUD...with 2 little kids, who has time to remember anything else. :)

Hi S.,

I've been using the NuvaRing for about 9 months now, and its been great! I used to use the patch, but each time I removed it, I would have the worst headaches and nausea. The NuvaRing is very simple to insert - its not much harder than using a tampon with a cardboard applicator, and its also very easy to remove. The starter kit comes with a little timer that keeps track of when you need to take it out and when to put a new one in. I'm not the type of person that can remember to take a pill every day, so this was a perfect choice for me. Good luck in your search!

I use the NuvaRing. I don't like it very much mostly because of the idea of it. With my next yearly, I want to go back to the pill, I think. It's convenient in that it's not daily, but I liked the patch SOOO much better. Too bad it had to come off the market for causing blood clots I guess.

I loved the NuvaRing. I was on it for years and it was also really easy
to get pregnant for me when I stopped it too. I guess that's not always a good thing for some people but everybody I know who was on the pill took a while to get pregnant.
I highly recommend it.

I would recommend Nuva Ring. I used it and was happy with it. It can be a little awkward at first, but it is definitely more convenient than the pill and my husband culd not feel it, nor could I. Couple of things to be aware of (highly personal): If you are prone to yeast infections, this can cause more becasue you tend to be wetter, unless you have sex frequently and then it is not an issue.
