Has anyone tried it, currently using it? I'm nursing my 4 1/2 mth old daughter and I'm VERY sensitive to meds...I've tried the pill..and I've had alll the side effects, I then used the patch...and I was using that for 4 + yrs and now....I'm trying to find an alternate contraceptive. If anyone has or is using the Nuva Ring, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

I had some bad side effects to the Nuva Ring and decided not to use it anymore. It made my periods heavier and more painful as well as made me extremely evil for that week while I was on my period. All in all not worth it. I use the Depo Shot but would prefer to try the copper IUD instead because it has no hormones at all. I also had bad side effects with the pill so am careful as to what I use for birth control.

Good Luck!

I tried the Nuva Ring, it worked ok for me for about the first year. Previously I was using the depo shot, and do fine with that. I don't normally have any bad reactions with the pill, I just forget to take them....anyways, it worked alright at first, but after a while I started having huge mood swings (which is not typical for me) and had to do something different. So I got the mirena IUD and I loved it. I had it removed to get pregnant, got pregnant right away, and am due next month. I had no problems with the IUD - I had it for approx. 3 years, and it was awesome. If you are not planning on having another child for a while, that is what I would suggest! Good Luck!

Hi! I've also been using the ring for about 3 years and I love it. My husband doesn't feel it or if he does, he does not mined it. I love that I only have to worry about it twice a month and not daily. Also, a good tip is if you are having trouble inserting it, you can use a tampon applicator. Simply remove the cotton and insert the nuva ring inside the applicator, and insert your nova ring as if you were to be inserting a tampon. This way you won't worry if you put it in the right place. Give it a try, and I hope my comment helps you or maybe someone else to give it a try :)

I loved it because I did not have to worry about remembering to take that darn pill every day. However, my pharmacist said that it is contradicted if you are nursing so I would wait until you are done nursing. You should be taking a certain kind of pill that is for nursing moms. I am still nursing and take one called Jolivette. I think it is progesterone only. You should talk with your ob.

I used Nuva Ring for two years a few years ago. I liked it. For me, it was convenient and my periods were a bit more controlled. I stopped using it though because I was becoming sensitive to it. It started making me sick. I've discovered that I am also sensitive to hormonal birth control methods, so now my husband and I just use condoms. Nuva Ring has all the same hormones as the pill, patch, and Depo Provera (shots), so you might run into the same problems you have had with the pill and patch. I would definitely read all the advice here AND talk to your OB/GYN about your options, especially since you're still nursing. I hope this helps!! Good luck!!

Hello,

I've been using the Nuva ring for almost 3 years now. Like you, I was previously on the patch. I must have been alergic or extremely sensitive to the adhesive because it left dark brown square areas where ever I placed it. So, I looked for an alternative; the ring. It's simple to put in, you don't have to remove it for sex. My partner doesn't complain about it. My gyno doesn't have to remove it for the examination. It's is more expensive than the pills and the patch but I find it to be the best contraceptive thus far. Make sure you read all the warning and precautions and discuss this option with your doctor. Good luck!

Hi Cel,

I wouldn't use anything that causes your natural cycles to change.. like missing a period for 60 days...to me, that is crazy and adding additional hormones to ones body, I can't imagine in the long run is good for a woman. (even if the Nuva Ring sponsors say it is ok)
Have you considered properly tracking your cycles so that you can begin to learn when you are ovulating and in addition, is your partner ok with using protection?
I just don't think women should pay the price with their bodies.. Whether it's the pill or now, the Nuva Ring... Women run the risk of future problems, I just don't think adding EXTRAs to one's body is a good idea.
There is a book called, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" it's not just about fertility but learning about how the body works, it's a good read and packed with valuable information for all women.

I wish you the best

On it now and I love it. I had three big problems with the pill. First I would forget to take it. Second they made me nauseous and lastly the sudden drop in hormones at the end of the cycle would turn me into a raging psycho for two days. All of those problems have been solved for me by switching to the ring. I have a reminder timer on my computer so that I know when to take it out and replace it. And because it acts locally it doesn’t have to raise my blood hormone levels as much as the pill did so I don’t get any of the mood issues I used to. For me the ring is probably the single best invention ever.

I have used it for almost three years and love it. Had no side effects - maybe a little vaginal dryness when I first started on it but it cleared up quickly. Although I didnt respond well to birth control pills - made me sick. I liked the ring because it doesnt go through your stomach......keep in mind if you do have vigorous sex (like on our honeymoon!) it can occassionally come out - yikes ! it only happened once and its ok to be out for three hours at a time. Make sure when inserting it you put it way way up inside of you - my husband said he could feel it once during sex. Overall its the best method I've tried!

I am slso sensitive to hormone therapy. My husband and I chose to use the drug store available spermacidal jelly in the vaginal syringe (Contraceptrol) not sure I spelled it correctly. It worked as long as I used it, hence surprise number three, now 19 years old. My husband did not react to the chemicals in the spermicidal jelly. Our children are 27, 25 and 19 Years.... A.

I have the Nuva Ring and LOVE it. I put it in and go sixty days without a period. You have to change it every thirty days but can skip a period and go sixty days without one. You have to take it out for intercourse but it's not a big deal. I've been wearing mine for two years and just love it. No side effects like the Depo shot did. I hardly know I have it in. I recommend it to anyone. They will give free samples for you to try it at your doctors (or they did at mine) and then if I liked it they would give me a prescription. I liked it and got my prescription.

Good luck,

Hello fellow mom,
Yes I have tried the nuvaring and to be honest I hated it! I got all the symptoms that you can get from it, and from what I've heard from other forums so has many women. One of the most common symptons is light bleeding and I had light bleeding from the time I started to the time I stopped using it, which was 2 months. So ya, I guess it really is birth control cause my husband and I couldn't have sex the whole time! My advice, especially since you tend to get all the symptoms, is not to even bother trying it. Plus, and I mean a big plus, I heard from the women that did use it and have sex that it would always slip out during sex, so that's a big downer as well. Hope this helps you.

I am a nuvaring user and love it. I switched to it due to menstral migraines that I was having and needed a low dose alternative to the pill. It really was the best option in terms of the least exposure to hormones. I have had no trouble with it at all.

Hello, I am also very sensitive to many things and cannot use any Pills because of the side effects. A few years ago, I tried the Ring and enjoyed it for a while, but because it also releases hormones, I realize the side effects were not something I could live with. It was pretty comfortable for me, but my husband COULD feel it inside. Also, I had him help me take it out every month for me, because I am not so comfortable doing so. Thats about as honest as I could be about it. Good luck!
