Nutella might cause cancer but Red Wine prevents it. So: one glass of red wine for each serving of nutella = no problems.
I hear Italy is pulling this off the shelves because it contains palm oil. What's a good alternative? Also what other palm oil foods should I avoid for the kiddies.
Thanks F. B.

aldi has their version. its free from palm oil on the ingredients list. (the link has the ingredinets list) berryhill hazzelnut spread. tastewise its about the same thing,
Nutella is probably one of the most unhealthy foods anyway...tons of sugar, very little good stuff. It's marketed as healthy, but in my opinion, there's very little difference between nutella and chocolate frosting. If I were you, I'd substitute peanut butter (assuming no allergies) or almond butter. They're not as sweet, but you can usually grind your own at the health food store.
I have to agree with Diane D. It seems there is a cancer agent in everything now. I am more apt to pay closer attn. to reports of listeria, salmonella, etc. The one thing I am not going to buy for my family for a while is salmon due to a reported tapeworm issue. I honestly think that if we have things in moderation, should be fine. I mean, are you going to let your kids gorge on stuff? I would say most likely not.

That's an interesting link that discusses the situation and how palm oil is processed..

There's a homemade Nutella recipe in that link.
However, my general opinion is that Nutella shouldn't be at every meal as the tv commercials seem to suggest. No kid needs a frozen waffle with Nutella every morning, and a Nutella sandwich after school. Save it for a Saturday morning. If we treated so-called "junk food" the way it's supposed to be treated, we wouldn't have so many problems. Take soda, for example. It shouldn't be served every evening with supper, or consumed whenever someone gets thirsty. That's what water is for. But too many people reach for a soda when they're thirsty. A healthy approach to food means mostly eating real, recognizable foods in their natural state, and relaxing a little and enjoying the occasional, moderate snack or treat.
Meh.
Palm oil is in many things as it's not as unhealthy as they make it out to be.
We will happily continue to enjoy Nutella and ignore the tempest-in-a-teapot over this latest panic.
We all die of something eventually.
If I live to be 200 and I'm not enjoying it - what's the point?
I'm not eating Nutella like it's going out of style but it's a nice treat - a sometimes food.
Eating it every once in awhile isn't hurting anything.
We eat bacon and peanuts too.
Gee we should be dead already and yet we're still alive and well.
You do realize that almost everything has palm oil in it? My friend is allergic to it and when she goes to buy groceries she reads every single label and puts over half of it back.
It's in food and makeup and so many things. If it was as dangerous as some are saying we'd all be dead. It might be dangerous but how much?
Palm oil has a lot of names:

B.,
if it's processed? It's not good for you. You can make your own peanut butter.

If you are concerned about what you feed your kids? Fruits, veggies and non-processed foods.
Palm Oil is NOT bad for you. This is what Italy is taking it off the shelves...not because it's bad for you. but because it's harming the environment and animals.

Deedee's right - Nutella isn't good for you. The amount of sugar and fat grams is kind of eye-popping. My son discovered Nutella and thought it was wonderful until I remarked to him that he might want to look at the label. He doesn't eat it anymore for that reason alone.
I think the main reason that it is being pulled is because the palm oil industry is helping in the destruction of rain forests. All of the natural peanut butters that I've found have palm oil. I know there was a big stink over a couple kinds of Girl Scout cookies a couple of years ago because of palm oil. I think they have changed their recipe now.
it's super easy to make your own.

Everything is bad for you now days. If you are that worried, spend some time reading labels since you know better what your family likes an doesn't like.
If you want to stay away from things that may be "bad" for you then eat "real" food such as meat, fruit and veggies. Stay away from quick and easy processed foods or make a healthy alternative. Good luck.
