I stopped nursing about a week ago- it was a very gradual weaning so I didnt get any noticeable engorgement but my breasts are still much larger than they were before. When will they return to their normal size??

What can I do next?

It is partly genetic. In my family, the cup size goes up at least two while pregnant and nursing, then down one after weaning, leaving us permanently one cup size larger than pre-pregnancy. It's the new normal, like many things about a body after having a baby.

Yes and no. Part of it is the enlarged mammary glands, part is the milk, and part is any extra weight your body has been hoarding there or that you gained during pregnancy.

I stopped abruptly the first time and my breasts were very saggy, it took about a year (of not doing anything mind you) before they were back to normal. I'm hoping this time will be more normal. :)

Hi Erika,

As long as you haven't gained any additional weight, your breast will most likely go back to their pre-pregnancy size. It takes a while though. The ductal structure within the breast will become less prominent within the breast and adipose tissue will fill its place. Just give it time. It will probably be a few months. HTH, S.

It actually took me close to 3 weeks before mine were back to normal. I woke up one morning and they were deflated...like balloons that lost their air. LOL. Hope this helps!

Hard to say but they will eventually. it's nature's way of making milk available in case your little one still needs it for awhile.

I was a medium B before I got pregnant. While nursing I was a DD .After nursing my (about 2 months) I ended up at a C cup. We will see what happens after #2 comes. They didnt shrink after I stopped weaning they just became less full (if that makes sense). I say give it a couple of months just so your sure prodcution has stopped then you should stay where you are.

When you stop nursing it can take up to year for the breast to stop leaking so i would say that. besides after having a baby n breastfeeding your breasts may not go back to before baby size. when ur pregnant that when they usually get bigger n stay thats how most women get big boobs with out surgery
