Dermoplast (sp?) is great. You spray it on so you don't have to have any skin contact with already sensitive areas. I've seen it at Walmart.
Hi Moms- I am about to have my second baby and I was thinking about my 1st birth. After labor I remember the nurse giving me some ointment that created a numbing effect so that I could pee without it burning. I put it on the pad she gave me and it worked wonderfully. Does anyone know what it might have been? I want to make sure I have it again since I will be in a different hospital this time.

I do not know the name but the hospital supplied it for me. Maybe a phone call to your ob/gyn and they could tell you. Good luck!
Hi B., I think it was Lanacaine. Anything with xylocaine will numb the area. I'm sure all hospitals have it. I did and my kids are all grown. Best wishes on your new bundle of joy. Grandma Mary
You might be talking about Emla cream. But what helped for me was to take the big maxi pad thing and then on top of it, lay two or three tucks pads on top of it and then spray the pads with Dermaplast (I think that's what it was called.... it was a numbing kind of spray). It made me laugh b/c it looked like I was making a sub sandwich with the maxi pad!!! Good luck!
Hi B.,
I know that may hospitals have Dermaplast spray which can be used on your pads. As for the ointment, I'm not sure, maybe EMLA cream? It doesn't really matter exactly what type it is, if you describe it to your nurse, she will let you know what they have that is comparable - not every hospital may carry the exact same medical products
Good luck
Hi - it's nupercanal (sp?) ointment. It's intended for hemmroids, and is sold in the pharmacy in that section. Your pharmasist will know if you ask. Good luck with your delivery!
When I had my 2nd in May they gave me something called Epifoam that you could either put on a pad and keep there or put it on yourself. It definitely helped numb the area, but it was not an ointment, but a little pump bottle that looked like shaving cream.
I was given dermaplast spray last month when I delivered my second. It worked okay, but wore off too quickly. But should be sufficient for using the potty.
is it called lipocaine or something like that? its great-the hospital will have it anyway- you don't need to buy it.
another great thing to do. buy large maxi pads and saturate with witch hazel. wrap in plastic wrap and freeze. upwrap as needed and they feel so soothing. an md recommended it to me after birth.
I remember that it was Lidocaine. It is indeed a miracle after giving birth.
