We spent the weekend with some friends out of town. Their 14 yr old daughter became positive for the Flu the following Monday. Well our 14 yr old son got it Tuesday, and then our 5 yr old son on Wednesday now today my 4 yr old baby girl got it. We tried soo hard to keep the house sanitized, cups washed in dishwasher, cover mouths. You momma’s have any more helpful hints to helping my family getting well. I have put chicken in Crockpot for chicken noodle soup. We have our juices, Gatorade and water pushing.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The doc offered the kiddos tamaflu meds to help shorten the flu. Suggested treatment of symoptons. I really like the idea of using disposable items, forgot about the new toothbrushes, and NEVER thought to wash the linens everyday. I can see them coughing and the germs sprayed on the blankets. Thanks..love ..love the idea's.

Wash the bed linens daily as your kids are suffering. The linen holds bacteria from sweat.

Fluids, fluids, fluids. Plenty of rest. Disposable cups, plates, paper towels instead of cloth ones after washing hands. If it is a virus, all you can do is let it run it's course and do what you can to keep them hydrated and comfortable until it does. Germs still get transmitted back and forth in the cleanest of environments so you can't expect one family member to get sick with something contagious and nobody else does. If all 3 of your kids were around this girl, then all 3 were exposed, so they didn't necessarily get it from each other. Once it's all done, new toothbrushes for everyone.

Elderberry juice is a super anti-oxident and it works wonders. I get it from a local vitamin shop. We all take it in my house. I had white bumps on my tounsils and it hurt to yawn, I took elderberry juice for a couple days and the bumps went away. My 4 year old has molescum (bumps on his legs which is viral caused and can take up to 2 yrs to go away. I've been putting elderberry juice in his juice and it's clearing up after only a few weeks. I don't have time to change sheets on the beds everyday so I wash/change all our pillow cases quite frequently.

I don't know if it is true or not, but someone sent me an email a few weeks ago saying that cut onions absorb germs/bacteria. That if you set a cut onion on a plate near someone's bed when they are sick, that the next morning it will be black from all the germs that it absorbs.
Could be nothing and just junk or an old wives tale, but I'd never heard it before. It also cautioned against saving cut onions (like use half for a salad and refrigerate the other half for something else later)...
So... take it for what it is... just 'something I heard'....

The onion thing has worked for my family this week. Sounds nuts, but it really works. But we only had bad colds. Once I put the onion by my daughter's and husband's bed, they quit coughing almost immediately.

Anyways, when we are around anyone with the flu, I up our intake of vitamin D3 and vitamin C. I take 1000 mg. of C every 2 hours for a day. You can find great articles on vitamin D3 and how great it is for you and your immune system, and also how much you should take to keep from getting sick, or atleast cutting the duration of sickness down in half.

When we are sick like that , I use disposable dishes and try to have the ones who don't have it stay away from the ones who do. If it is the flu, you should call the doctor and see if there is anything they can give you to make it less severe.
