I had mine done in June 2008. My periods had always been very far apart and about 7-8 days in duration, ever since I first got my period as a teenager, but otherwise were what would be termed "normal." But starting in March 2008 (when I 40), they became about 18, 19, 21 days apart (I would sometimes go 53, 63 days in between cycles--normal would be about 33 days), with very heavy bleeding and lots of blood clots. After seeing my GYN and having some tests, I found I had hyperplasia of 11 cm; after a biopsy, though, thankfully, no cancer.
I've been one of the lucky ones having the NovaSure--no period anymore. Love that part of it. The part I don't like, however, is that I still get PMS/cramps/irritability/yeast infections/all that jazz. And the worse part is, since I can't control/monitor my period, I have no idea where I am in my cycle. So I have no idea that my "symptoms" are because of my period cycle. Until they go on/last for a few days. Then it's an "aha!" moment, and I figure it out. And just because I've had the NovaSure, doesn't mean my period cycle has been "fixed." It's still as screwed up as ever--in my case, very, very short cycle periods at the moment (from what I can figure out).
The other issue I'm running into is that, with having no period/cycle barometer, I cannot accurately watch my body for Perimenopause/Menopause symptoms. I'm pretty sure I'm currently going through Perimenopause (I'm 43; my mom started in her mid- to late 30s), and it took me a long time to figure that out. I handle the symptoms with homeopathy remedies.
Would I do it again? Knowing what I now know about allopathic medicine, and having taken the time to learn about alternative medicine during the past three years, I would have checked out alternative methods first, I think. If the body is in alignment and there are no issues, then there shouldn't be any issues with period/mensturation as well. Nutrition can fix a TON of problems with the body. That's just like with menopause symptoms; something's off in my body; otherwise, I wouldn't be having any issues. So I'm pursuing nutrition, herbs, homepathy, supplements, and thinking about looking into using a medical intuitive. But until you've crossed over into the spiritual way of thinking, that last one's probably not for everyone. ;)
BUT. The deed is done, and I am very happy I no longer have to put up with the expense and the ick of a period. But I do still have to deal with the PMS issues.
Just so you know, and have all the facts. If you currently have problems/issues with PMS and/or yeast infections--they won't go away just because you no longer have a period.
