I'm DYING to stop having heavy periods and my doctor wants me off birth control pills in the next year due to my age (43.) I'm already had the Esure procedure so that's already taken care of. :)

Just looking for some feedback. It seems like a miracle cure to stop the heavy bleeding once and for all!

So What Happened?

Had it done today 5.31.11

Felt like I was in labor for about four hours but dummy me took a pass on the painkillers. Got some sleep and I feel pretty good now. Now to get rid of a half a bag of IV fluid that was pumped into me. Hands and feet are a little swollen but I'll live!

****Miracle for Me***
I had the procedure done 2.5 years ago (at 42) and all bleeding stopped. I had pretty nasty fibriods and my heavy periods were about 20 days per month. Super fast recovery and just minimal cramping. I would do it over again in a heartbeat!!

Saved my life!
I had the procedure done in Feb. 2010. The doctor was floored when he heard what I'd been dealing with. Both my GP and GYN said that I could've bled to death ....

I was not one of the lucky ones who had the bleeding stop all together, but the cycles now are a fraction of what I used to go through. I used to go through a Overnight tampon & pad every 20m for the first 3 days and the cycles would last 8-9 days. I would go through 4 boxes of stuff in a week!

Now I no longer use tampons. I might go through 4 pads on the heaviest day. That's mostly for sanitary reasons. Cycles last about 4 days.

The one thing that they mentioned but I didn't truely get was the cramping. The cramping was AWEFUL right after the surgery. I didn't normally have cramping with my cycles, so it was a BIG change. Then during my cycles they were labor strength for the first 2 days. However, the last two months (10m post surgery), I haven't had any cramping with my cycles.

I also had some intimacy issues right after. There was a 'burned' smell, and I just couldn't get past it. It took about 2m for me to deal with that, but part of that is my body...

I wish I had come clean about my issues sooner! My life is so much freer now.

Good luck
M.

I had the NovaSure prodedure in my late 20's. I had heavy bleeding and my monthly would last 10-14 days each cycle. After the procedure you NEED to rest/sleep for the rest of the day because if not, cramps will be painful. After that I was good to go. All I wanted was a lighter/normal monthly. Now I have no monthly. That was about 2 years ago.
It was one of the best things that I have done for myself.

I had mine done in June 2008. My periods had always been very far apart and about 7-8 days in duration, ever since I first got my period as a teenager, but otherwise were what would be termed "normal." But starting in March 2008 (when I 40), they became about 18, 19, 21 days apart (I would sometimes go 53, 63 days in between cycles--normal would be about 33 days), with very heavy bleeding and lots of blood clots. After seeing my GYN and having some tests, I found I had hyperplasia of 11 cm; after a biopsy, though, thankfully, no cancer.

I've been one of the lucky ones having the NovaSure--no period anymore. Love that part of it. The part I don't like, however, is that I still get PMS/cramps/irritability/yeast infections/all that jazz. And the worse part is, since I can't control/monitor my period, I have no idea where I am in my cycle. So I have no idea that my "symptoms" are because of my period cycle. Until they go on/last for a few days. Then it's an "aha!" moment, and I figure it out. And just because I've had the NovaSure, doesn't mean my period cycle has been "fixed." It's still as screwed up as ever--in my case, very, very short cycle periods at the moment (from what I can figure out).

The other issue I'm running into is that, with having no period/cycle barometer, I cannot accurately watch my body for Perimenopause/Menopause symptoms. I'm pretty sure I'm currently going through Perimenopause (I'm 43; my mom started in her mid- to late 30s), and it took me a long time to figure that out. I handle the symptoms with homeopathy remedies.

Would I do it again? Knowing what I now know about allopathic medicine, and having taken the time to learn about alternative medicine during the past three years, I would have checked out alternative methods first, I think. If the body is in alignment and there are no issues, then there shouldn't be any issues with period/mensturation as well. Nutrition can fix a TON of problems with the body. That's just like with menopause symptoms; something's off in my body; otherwise, I wouldn't be having any issues. So I'm pursuing nutrition, herbs, homepathy, supplements, and thinking about looking into using a medical intuitive. But until you've crossed over into the spiritual way of thinking, that last one's probably not for everyone. ;)

BUT. The deed is done, and I am very happy I no longer have to put up with the expense and the ick of a period. But I do still have to deal with the PMS issues.

Just so you know, and have all the facts. If you currently have problems/issues with PMS and/or yeast infections--they won't go away just because you no longer have a period.
