Good day to everyone. This is my first time on the boards....but I recently visited my OB/GYN and am considering the NovaSure procedure which is the cauterizing of your uterine walls which in turn either lessens your bleeding each month and/or will completely stop your periods. I have been doing research online looking at other women's experiences, etc. However, it seems that all the women online who are speaking out about their procedure are 37 (average) and up. I just turned 30, I have 2 girls, my tubes are tied (years ago) and I have no plans to have any more children. I am curious if any of you have had NovaSure and if so, at what age, and your experiences to same. I would love your opinions. Thanks!

I haven't had it done myself but I'm seriously considering it once we're sure we're done having kids. I do have a friend who did it and SWEARS by it. Good Luck!

hi B.

when I got my tubes tied when my youngest was 3 I have regretted it since. I always wanted a baby later in life (in my late 30's) I had 4 kids and another one at any time was not feasible so I knew I ws never going to have this baby but I wish I would have had the option open.

I got the cauterazation done in late Nov 2007 at 45 it was probably the best thing I did for myself but when I got it done it was because I was having other female surgery done.

my advice to you would be to not have it done just yet because certain things could come up that you will want another baby. and I am not talking a death of 1 your children. you are young. wait a few years.

but if your periods are horrible then get it done but if not and they are normal just wait.

the surgery itself was easy I had it done about 2:45 and I was home at 4pm and by 6 if it was not for the slight side effect I had (I could not stay awake but the doctor reminded me that I did not sleep very well for 4 months--I was up every hour or so cleaning up because of very heavy bleeding) at 6pm I was feeling no pain from the surgery and the surgery I had was also another surgery to stop my heavy bleeding.

Hi there-
I had it done last year at the ripe old age of 37 :).... and it has been SO helpful.
Had I known about it sooner, and had I felt comfortable ending my "reproductive" years sooner... I would have had it done after the birth of my third son, at age 29!!!
It is such a blessing not to have the terribly heavy bleeding and the anemia and the cramping, etc.... it doesn't relieve all my symptoms, but OH, what a difference!
I was at the point I couldn't even go to the park for 30 minutes because I would need to change my tampon (again).... Now I can travel, go to the park, hike, all without fear, and really enjoy time my children.
I hope everything goes well for you.
Let me know if you have any personal questions!
toni

I'm with Barb...GREATEST THING I have EVER done for myself...EVER. (Although LASIK rates a close second!)

I had it done at the age of 33 after the birth of my son did very bad things to my body and I started to become borderline anemic. It's been 5 years and have had no problems whatsoever. I had the surgery on the morning of New Year's Eve, and that night I was out at a party! I had a bit of cramping at first but within a few days even that was gone. I really didn't have any side effects other than the cramping but even that wasn't as bad as what I had been experiencing pre-surgery. I consider the procedure a blessing!

If you're sure you're done having kids, do it. You won't regret it!

GO fot it. Greatest thing I ever did. I had it done when I was 34 they had just started doing the procedure. It only lasted me two years and then the heavy bleeding started again (the doctor didn't believe me),However because of the shape of my uterus there was an area they didn't get to and thus why it came back. I had it done again 3 years ago and life is great. The doctor knew what he was dealing with and took care of the problem. I have several friends who also had it done after me and they are all thrilled ages 32-45 when doing it. I have no cramping or bloating Life is wonderful. Period whats that? If you have any other questions feel free to contact me. Mother of 4 twins boy and girl-18 son-15 daughter -13. Oh my daughteres already want to do it after they are done having kids(I hope that will be a long time from now)

Sorry if this is repetitive advice. If you are totally sure you are done having children--I would highly recommend it! I had four children within four years. After that, my periods became something out of a horror movie. I seriously could not go anywhere the first two days of my period. I begged my doctors to do something--anything. They always suggested birth control or hysterectomy. Well, my husband had a vasectomy--so neither of those were good options for me. Plus, I believe we should leave with what we came with. So I went through misery for 10 years. Then I read about Novasure on the internet, talked to a friend--she had had it, and I went to the doctor and had it done 1 week later. The end of the story is that I just went on vacation for the first time in 10 years, went sailing, to the beach and to 6 flags without worrying if I was bleeding through my "White" shorts. I hadn't worn white in 10 years either! WOnderful procedure--although I took my time recuperating. My friend told me that the more I took it easy, the less the bleeding would be at period time. I had two little swipes of blood on my light day pad. A far cry from wearing a "depends pad" and "super" tampon and having to change them every hour! Seriously, where were these people ten years ago??
Great doctor recommendation Michele Mc Elroy ###-###-####. SHe's in Gilbert.

Good luck!
