Not Wanting to Travel Anymore

I just recently returned from a trip to relatives house. The drive was about 4-5 hours and going down it really wasn't bad, but the return trip was horrible. Does anyone have any suggestions to stop kids from getting car sick....I have 6 and it seems like anytime we take a road trip farther than 1 hr from home someone will get sick. We have not been able to use our DVD player in the car because someone gets sick watching it. It is to the point where I don't want to go anywhere because I don't want to have to clean up a little person, their car seat and/or the car when we get to where we are going. Any advice or help?

What can I do next?

When I was pregnant and very nauseous, the smell of peppermint always helped me feel normal! Try getting a car air freshener with the peppermint smell (not just mint, but peppermint) and see if that works! Good luck!

I have six and most of them get car sick. I tried ginger but that did nothing. So, stock up on Dramimine they have the non-drozy formular but if they sleep most of the way it is easier to travel with them!

My Daughter even get's sick driving her car at times.

Thinking of smells that have helped, earlier this pregnancy we were visiting my in-laws. My mil kept a honeysuckle candle lit in the bathroom. Just walking in there immediately stopped the feeling I needed to throw up. We haven't had to deal with this yet. Please post if you find a cure just in case we need it. :)

Hello, I have not had this issue yet (knock on wood) but I have heard that Dramamine (spelling?) works well. You may want to try it next time.

Good Luck!

As a kid, I was ALWAYS The one making my parents pull over so I could puke on the side of the road...for me, the only thing that worked was dramamine. I had to sit in th middle so I could see the road, and I couldn't read, color, play games, etc. on road trips. Despite this, I have many fond memories of riding in the car. The DVD player is such a great thing for the car, it is a pity that the kids can't watch it. I am not sure the dramamine will help with that.

In addition to the Dramamine, consider some type of blind or curtain for the rear side windows so that the car sick child can't see the out. Many people who develop traveling sickness (car, plane, boat) do so because their brain-inner ear connection doesn't "get" the disconnect between their stationary body inside a moving vehicle while seeing the road/countryside whizzing by. So if you isolate the line of sight (like with the airplane window shade), motion sickness can be averted and you can go back to using the DVD player.
