Not Wanting Bottle Anymore

My 8 month old has been taken a bottle since he was 2 months old at daycare and just started last week not wanting it anymore. Still breastfeed sat home fine and loves to eat table food. My concern is that is he getting enough fluids while being in daycare? They mix it with cereal so he takes it that way. No sign of sores in the mouth or an ear infection that I can tell. He gets boob in the morning and twice when he gets home. Doesn't see doc till his 9 month appt. in 4 weeks. Still having wet diapers just not as wet.
What to do or think about this, HELP
Thank you

So What Happened?

Yes I have changed the nipple to one that is a sippy cup. Still no

Just to let everyone know that daycare is not putting cereal in the bottle they are just mixing it and feeding it to him with a spoon. And trying a cup.

try a straw style cup. and other sippy cups, at 8 months they can begin to transition to sippy cups and some even do well with a regular cup like an adult would use.
i started my kids (breastfed and no bottles) with water in a sippy cup around 8 months, i didn't expect them to get much out of it but both were drinking well out of the sippy cup by 9 mo. and could drink from a straw too.

In Oklahoma a child care facility can lose their license to operate if they're caught putting cereal in a bottle. If he's nursing you know he's getting his complete nutritional needs met.

Have you changed the nipple on the bottle? My kids didn't really care, usually chewed on it enough to make the hole bigger themselves. I have friends with kids though that wanted nothing to do with the bottle because the hole was to small as they got bigger. My kids also went through a phase that they did not want the bottle at all. That was a great time to introduce a cup.

Use a little plastic cup with a thin lip to get him started on a cup. If you're pumping, put breastmilk in the cup. If not, use formula. Get this into him when he's hungry, instead of feeding him table food. Before a year, this is really important - he needs the nutrients in breastmilk or formula a lot more than he needs food.

Couple of thoughts.

Mine used to like bottles at a certain temperature - otherwise they wouldn't bother with them. Is it a new teacher? have they switched up how they give it to him?

I agree about hole in nipple. They have different sizes as they get older.

I'm not sure about the mixing cereal with the milk in bottle. We never did that.

I also offered food separate from the milk. I didn't give bottles (or breastfeed) with the meals. I liked to make sure they had empty belly before food (not full up on milk) and likewise, I didn't breastfeed right after a meal. I sort of spaced it out.

Try giving him a bottle at home (same kind you have at the daycare). Just to see how it goes. That might give you a better indication of what's going on (just 1/4 bottle so you can still breastfeed afterwards).

I can't remember what the actual amounts are they need at that stage (you can go over that with your pediatrician) but sounds like he's still having wet diapers so that's a good sign.

Good luck :)

I have noticed this with a lot of daycare kids before they start getting a new tooth. But I have also had daycare kids that just went on a bottle strike for a while, you have to keep offering the bottle but then giving the milk mixed with cereal if they don't drink the liquid.
