My 1 year old won't drink anything every time i hand him his sippy cup he acts like he is thirsty but drinks and starts crying. Ive tried every type of juice i have, milk, water. He also has been VERY fussy today out of nowhere he will start screaming. I thought maybe he had a sore throat but he is eating just fine. He has also been sleeping almost all day. Anyone have any suggestion to what this could be? Also there is no fever at all.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

No teething. I see no swollen gums or white marks where teeth would be coming in. Also ive tried warming up the drinks some too. Just the milk mostly..but its just not working. I thought if it was an ear infection he would be running a fever?

I'd try either a different type of cup or to medicate him and see if that improves his mood. Sometimes they are grumpy and don't feel well and you just can't tell why. Occasionally DH and I will go, "Hrm" and medicate DD and voila! New kid. Even without a fever, maybe he has a sore throat or ear infection?

yep, you can have an ear infection without a fever. Strep, too....which always surprises me. :)

ear infection? Sucking will hurt that. Can definitely have ear infections without fevers.

I'd take him to the doctor. He could have strep. My kids had strep without fevers, so don't believe anyone who says that strep HAS to present with a fever.

He might be teething and the cold is hurting his teeth? Or maybe he is just teething period. my two seemed to be constantly teething from 3 months to 1.5 years! It does sound like a sore throat though, maybe he is just hungry enough to eat. look in his mouth-I am curious about the teething.
eta: It could be A. ear infection then. Mine have never had A. ear infection so I am blessed thus far. I had undiagnosed strep when I was little and ended up with rheumatic fever. My mom said I was "acting" fine.

If it were me, I'd call the doctor. It is simply unfair (to mothers!) that a child can be ill without a fever, but it happens. It can't hurt to pick your doctor's brains.

My guess is an ear infection. He has to suck on the sippy cup in order to get the liquid out, and the resulting pressure in his ears is hurting him. Will he drink from a cup? Or can you take the sippy valve out and see if that helps?

Some children don't take well to sippy cups at first. My goddaughter is a year old and while she knows what to do with sippy cups, she's not terribly impressed by them. She loves sippy STRAW cups and will drink from them happily.

My son had chronic ear infections, and he didn't run a fever. The only symptom he ever had was extreme irritability. Every time he got really cranky I would take him to the dr, and sure enough he would have an ear infection.

The holes in sippy cups can be very small. Juice cannot have pulp or it clogs the holes. Milk and water should be fine, unless the holes are clogged from prior use. That was an issue I had with my son. It took me a minute to realize that's what it was.

Does he have reflux issues? I know very young children can get it. My aunt suffers from it and to control it her Dr told her not to drink while she is eating and that helped her ( some). Are you giving him the drink with food?

I've had many an ear infection w/out a high grade fever. My son gets fevers whenever he has had ear infections, so I think it must depend on the person.

Just some thoughts, sorry no real answers. Good luck!

Try giving him a tiny amount of liquid in a small plastic cup to see if it is the sucking from the sippy cup that is bothering him or the swallowing.

What's in the sippy cup? Whatever it is could be upsetting his stomach. Try offering him just water.
