Not Sleeping Through the Night - Sanger,TX

I'm around 36 weeks and I'm at the uncomfortable stage of pregnancy. I'm averaging about 3 hours of sleep(on/off) through the night. For the past pregnancies I would get up a couple of times, maybe 3 times a night. In the last few weeks I'm up at least 6 times staying a wake for an hour at a time. I can't seem to figure out what is keeping me up or how to stay a sleep. By late afternoon, I'm zapped and try to take a cat nap, but this doesn't always happen. Does anyone have any suggestions or is this my body getting me ready for the new one?

What can I do next?

I'm 27 weeks and I'm experiencing the same thing. These things have helped (not completely fixed, but helped): a back massage from my hubby right before laying down; a warm bath; not drinking anything at least an hour before bed (so I'm not in the bathroom as much); lots of pillows to help get comfy. I also try to take short naps, but sometimes that makes it worse. Either I don't nap long enough to feel rested, or too long and then I can't sleep at night. I do think that this is part of preparing us to be up all night. My 2 y/o has slept thru the night since he was about 5 months or so, so I think my body's just getting me ready for this! I hope you get some rest soon!

I remember waking up several times a night, but not as bad as you. Do you have a body pillow? I got one at Target for under $50, it was shaped like a goofy "C" - it helped a LOT-supported my back, belly, legs, whatever I needed. It does take up a lot of room in a bed, but heck, you need your sleep!

Try Tylenol pm and see if that helps. But I always told myself this was gods way of preparing your body for less sleep after the baby comes.

I don't any suggestions, but just wanted to tell you that I am in the same boat. I'm 36.5 weeks pregnant with my second child (have a 2 year old at home) and am alone in the evenings as my husband works nights. I am up at least every 1/2 hour to every hour going to the bathroom, turning over because my hips are in pain or just because I can't sleep. I guess my only suggestions would be - go to bed earlier (or as early as possible) since you aren't getting sleep. Nap in the evenings (since you aren't sleeping at night), try a catnap (which you are doing)...and just know that it'll get better. Most babies dont' wake up every 1/2-1 hour so I think you'll be getting more sleep even when you are waking up several times a night with your little one. Hang in there!
