I am the mother to a precious 6 month old baby boy. For a while he was sleeping 5 or 6 hours at night. Now it's almost impossible to get him to take a nap in the day and he is waking up every three hours at night again. Anybody have any ideas to help me get him to sleep?

What can I do next?

I have a 13 month old little boy, and when he did that very same thing it was because he was teething. He began teething off and on from 3 months until he finally got his 2 bottom teeth at 9 months. I would try orajel, tylenol, or motrin and see how he responds. If it continues, it could also be an ear infection. Have that checked out. If all physiological causes are ruled out, then I recommend the book "Baby Wise." I used it faithfully with my son, and he sleeps like a dream at night and during the day. Good Luck!

I have a 9 month old ba by girl and I know that 6 months is prime teething time! Your little one is probably feeling very uncomfortable teething, try some tylenol or baby motrin before bed to help curb the pain. I know it seems hard now but it will get better as soon as all of those choppers come in!

Hi R.,

I know that just about the last advice a sleep-deprive mommy wants to hear is to read a book, but this one I found to be VERY helpful. It will guide you in understanding and dealing with the sleep changes that occur as your baby grows. I wish I had received this when my daughter was a tiny baby but I didn't find out about it until she was three years old (as a recommendation from another Mamasource Mommy). It is set up in chapters by stage/age, so you won't need to read the entire book right now, but you will want to refer back to as your child goes through each developmental stage.

Another wonderful book to read is "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby". Do you have a good bedtime/naptime routine in place with your baby? I know it is hard and you have to expect that there are going to be times (growth spurts, teething, illness, etc.) when no matter what you do it doesn't help! Good luck and I hope this helps some! Sweet dreams to you and your little angel!
