Not Showing Any Labor Signs...

I'm just about at my due date (due Feb 11th) besides him dropping I've shown absolutely no signs of going into labor any time soon. Now I've heard concentrated oils like basil and rosemary cause uterine contractions, I have a home remedy jar of concentrated essential oil in Basil because the basil one helps cure migrane headaches. {Which it does & I swear by it!}

But my question is would it help at all by using this or should I just wait & let him come naturally?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

ok so some of you are miss understanding my "home remedy" thing... its a jar that you put on your night stand and when you get a migraine you lay in bed, open jar, place back on nightstand and breath in the smell of the oil I'm not drinking it or anything like that... IT SAYS ON THE JAR: PURE ESSENTIAL OILS. MADE IN CANADA. DO NOT INGEST. KEEP AWAY FROM EYES.

Because this site doesnt work well on my computer or something... someone sent me a message about the basil...but in trying to reply it deleted the message on me. I got it at the state fair 2 years ago, they weren't there last year, but the website on the jar is www.arrabys.com

Actually I wasn't induced, I was born with the flu that was passed onto me from my mother, so I was born with a 104 degree fever, rushed away from my mother and was only allowed to see my dad until both my mom & I were healthy enough to see each other. I dont know about the inducing thing though...my friend had both hers induced and gave birth naturally with no meds (she thought the epidural would hinder their smarts as they grew up. But her oldest now 8, almost 9yrs old pretty much runs the household what she says goes.

You can try anything you think would help- herbals, breast pump, sex, walking, spicy foods... the list goes on. But the truth is, that baby is coming when he's ready and you can't do much about it short of induction.

A due date is an educated guess. Delivery up to two weeks before or after the 11th is considered on-time. The baby will come when he's ready! Walking or swimming might make you feel better. Do the things now that will be harder once he's here - rest as much as you can, go out to dinner or a movie, have sex!

You are not quite there yet , due date is just a rough guide line , most babies don't come on there due dates and as uncomfortable as you are he/she will come when ready. Look on the bright side , in the U.S they only let you go 7 days past due date , in England where I am from and where my first 2 kids were born , they will let you go 14 days over!!

Truthfully, I would just wait and let him come naturally. With my second, I was so ready for him to come. I walked my stairs one night and then had sex with my hubby in attempts to trigger labor. It worked and I went into labor that night, but after he came and I was missing being pregnant...I wished I would've just let nature take it's course. I really do. ;0) But, if you're super ready.........try walking, and climbing steps and some good ol' lovin'!!! LOL

Let the baby come on its own. Gestation is 38-42 weeks, unless you're past 42 weeks, you're not overdue and you will not be pregnant forever (even though it may feel like it). Labor will start when the baby is ready to be born, why rush it if he's not ready? Also, just because you don't have any signs of labor doesn't mean it couldn't start up five minutes from now. I, too, had zero signs a couple days before my due date-- no dilation, no effacing, baby hadn't dropped, nothing. But I went into labor on my due date and had a relatively quick labor and delivery. Good luck!

i would definatly wait and let baby come when baby is ready.
the most important thing to remember is that the numbers of SIDS is increased as well as the number of induced labor... since the lungs are the last to develop, and they then release a chemical to begin labor, it is very important in my opinion to wait as long as you can.
the thing about the estimated due date is that its estimated. if your cycle doesnt match up to an exact cycle of every 28 days for exactly 6 days or whatever, then you ARE going to vary from that due date. i had my son at 38 weeks and he was definatly perfectly ready. another friend of mine was nearly a month "overdue" and her son was just right at that date too. so let there be some variation; you just never know.

you can try anything you want to get labor started though; whatever you want to try. sex, walking, massage, chiropractic, stretching, whatever you want to try that seems safe to you. but as best you can, delay until things happen on their own; especially if you havent started to do things like "clean out" (if you know what i mean) and any discharge from a mucous plug or whatever. if none of that has happened, you should really really wait. i "cleaned out" starting about a week before labor, but i was also dialating at around 35 weeks or something too. anything happening like that for you ?

have you felt like scrubbing every surface in your house ? (aka nesting?) though not "scientific" its another signal LOL.

please write me, i would like to know about your home remedy jar - my mom and sister get bad migranes, and this might be something for them to try! :)
also if you have any questions.
the thing is that doctors WILL pressure you to induce; make sure you understand ALL the risks to induction; it has a high rate of leading right to a c-section, which though treated as if its not a big deal; its major surgury. avoid it if you can.
i had another friend just be induced un SUNDAY, and she didnt have her baby until MONDAY NIGHT... i wasnt induced, but was dialating, had "cleaned out" and passed discharge... and i had my son is 7 hrs. im a firm believer in waiting until BABY is ready, unless the doctors have verifiable true facts that prove your baby is in danger in the womb for any reason. high blood pressure can become an issue in some women, forcing an early delivery or induction. otherwise, in healthy, normal pregnancies, the cases are rare where going over a due date would be dangerous. in fact, i would like to think that since the rates are more dangerous with induction and c-section, that the induction route is more dangerous than waiting. :)

anyway, im not saying to distrust your doctor, but take what they say and make sure you are entirely comfortable with it . YOU pay THEM, things should go the way YOU want it to go LOL. they might make it sound like you have to do things their way, but thats not the truth; you can do whatever you want LOL.
anyway, good luck.
contact a local la leche league if you want to even if you dont plan on breastfeeding (though i highly recommend it! :) ) - they might have more information from someone who was in your exact position and what they decided to do and how it turned out. :) its always nice to have good information.
also www.askdrsears.com is a great resource. :)
good luck! ! ! and i hope your baby comes soon!

Have sex... seriously it seems to work for a lot of people. Sadly nothing worked for me and I went a week past my due date and ended up with a c-section so just know whatever you try might not work. I feel for you. Good luck and I hope you go into labor and deliver safely

i was overdue last time and was walking, and eating spicy foods. finally i used my breastpump for stimulation, 24 hrs later i was in labor (i used it for 15 min 2x's that day) but i would ask your dr, just to make sure they feel you are ready, but you are pretty close to your date so you should be fine...i wouldn't tell anyone to try anything before 39 weeks, there's a reason you're supposed to carry a baby 40 weeks

I've never been a big believer is egging on a delivery. With my first I got induced and I swear my daughter came out mad. She was mad for awhile. She's 4 and I think she's still mad. I really don't think she was ready. My second came naturally and she came out with a big grin on her face. Right now she's a happy 1 year old. I know I can never ask my oldest - Hey did you hate it when you were induced? It's just my thought that she did lol.I know you aren't looking to be induced and are looking to push things along herbally so it wouldn't be as bad. If you have to do that versus pitocen then it wouldn't be horrible. But I think your little bean is just finishing up staying close with mommy before everyone wants to get at her : )

Just wait! You'll have your baby when it's time. The due date your doctor gives you is just an estimate. If your dr. is concerned that you haven't gone into labor as of yet, there are things that can be done at that time. Home remedies can sometimes cause more harm than good if not used properly.

Good luck to you!

I know it's tough- but just wait. You will truly be surprised, minding your own business, and and whoosh! Either your water will break or you will have a contraction that you will truly notice.
Please stay away from herbal or natural remedies to start labor- most of them cause intestinal spasms which can lead to labor, but also to terrible upset stomach, diarrea, etc. Some can be dangerous to your blood pressure. Also, you may have uterine contractions, but they are not labor contractions- there is a difference.
Things you can try: spicy food, walking, sex, squatting (really put the baby into position), walking, squatting, or starting a giant project that should take a couple of days to complete!
Good luck and congratulations!
