Not Really Parenting Question, but Everyone Buys PILLOWS

We love the talalay or dunlop latex foam pillows (these are not memory foam).
They last a long time and hold their shape..

Go to Bed Bath and Beyond and hold the pillows - seeing which one will work for you. Pillows are sooo different!!! There are cheap ones and expensive ones...

If you want it to stand the test of time - then not any old stuffing will do. There are cheap ones that can last for years and expensive ones that can fall apart if not taken care of properly.

Bed Bath and Beyond has a HUGE selection of pillows - from $9.99 to $99.99 - look at the tags, feel the density and see if it will work for you!!

It's still EXACTLY as awesome as they day I got it. It's latex, so it doesn't have that hard memory foam thing going on and you don't have to worry about bugs or mites breaking it down. It's like having a pillow that is always plumped up, no matter how you move.

It'll smell funny for a day or so...just let it air out. I'm planning on getting three or four more for my bed when my tax return comes!

I have a pillow I inherited. Its probably 100 years old. I got it from the estate of my great grand parents. I have no idea who had it origionally. Its full of pin feathers. I've had it for since 1980 and I love it. Its heavy but forms to my head and so is soft. My wife has replaced the cover, but the stuffing is the same stuffing. If it is in the wrong shape I pick it up and shake it and pound it until its soft again.

Where would you get one? You might be able to find the stuffing on the internet and make one or buy one frome some company using the pinfeathers. (Goose down is too soft for me.) I have no idea unless you go to an estate sale in a nice neighborhood. I washed mine twice or three times when I first got it and then put it in the dryer for two or three cycles. I've used it ever since. I have no idea what will happen to it when I die, but I hope one of my kids or grand kids will appreciate it.

I know some of the mam-pedia readers will find this "gross", but it has worked for me for over a quarter of a century.

Tempurpedic ones are the only ones I have found that don't lose it after a year or so. They aren't as expensive as people may think either.

My MIL got the Temperpedic pillows and loves them. I don't remember what they cost and the only down side is that they need to be aired out for a long while. They smelled like chemicals. I will usually pick up pillows at Target or K mart and just replace them when needed. This way I can throw them in the washer now and then and if they get too lumpy I toss them.

I think down or feather pillows are more comfortable then the ones with the other stuffing. Make sure they're washable. They don't lose their shape if you wash them like the synthetic pillows do and they should last way more then 6 months.

I buy our pillows at target. i like the firmest ones i can find. once there is a dent in the middle of the pillow i wash and dry them it seems to bring them back to life. like fluff them back up like no ones business!

I have had good luck with pillows from Ikea, if you have one around. They arent too expensive. I just learned that it is good to change your pillows about every 6 months. Maybe it is just your pillow telling you it is time :-)

I agree with Cheryl O. Bed Bath and Beyond is where I buy our pillows. My husband grew up with a feather pillow, I didn't. His needed replacing (badly) and I went there... but ended up getting the synthetic "fake" down/feather pillows. (They dry faster than real feathers, lol).

Anyway, our son has allergies, and so I got him the same kind. They all LOVE their pillows, and still they are in good shape--probably 3 years old or more by now. None of us like the stiff lumpy cheap kind anymore. Bed Bath and Beyond often has good sales on this kind of thing, and they ALWAYS have 20% off coupons too. Use one for each item--even if the coupons are expired, they still honor them. They will tell you that up front, too. I have used coupons 3 years past the expiration date and they will comment about what the oldest one they have seen or something, but never try to say they are invalid. :)
