Not Getting Pregnant

I have 2 kids and it was NO PROBLEM getting pregnant both times. But now that we are trying for a third, it's not happening as quickly. It's been 5 months now. But the weird thing is, this month my period is 10 days late. I've taken 4 pregnancy tests, and all came back negative. Should I see a doctor about it? Should I just stop worrying?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, after a 13 day wait, I did get my period. I was disappointed, but we will still keep trying. I talked to a nurse who told me that if I have a 40+ day cycle again next month that they want to do a check up just to make sure everything is OK (check my thyroid, etc.). But, with any luck, next month that won't be necessary because the pregnancy test will come back positive. We'll see. Thanks to all of you who responded. Your advice was helpful and calming.

Yes, I would talk to your doctor. I took 2 EPT tests and both were negative but I really was pregnant! If you don't get the answers or help you want or are still having trouble conceiving I would encourage you to talk to Carolyn Walker at

First off I would see your dr to make sure that nothing else might be going on.

My hubby and I were in the same boat when we were wanting to get pregnant for the thirs time also. With the first 2 just talking about it I would be pregnant. With the last one I finally went to www.babyhopes.com (as well as 4 of my friends) we all got pregnant within the first month of trying. Scroll down looking on the left side for an ovulation calendar. It will give you your 3 most fertile days in the month and the next months to come. But I have to say that I know of like 6 couple that got pregnant using this site and within the first 3 months.
Good luck!!

you may not feel stressed but you period may be late due to aprehension of hoping you are and also from the stress of trying. That happened to us when we were 1st trying. And we even did relaxation exercises to "help the cause" but our drs. told us that our subconscious can still carry the stress even though we don't feel it. The thing that finally helped us was to just stop trying. And as soon as we did and focused on each individual day and living the most, it happened. "stopping" doesn't mean to give up enjoying yourself, but it can also help the male, they can produce more swimmers. When we did, my cycles went back to being clock-work on the 3rd of the month, They'd slipped to varying up to 8 days.

So if you've had your regular check ups and the dr doesn't haven't any concerns then just have fun.

I have a very good friend that thought she was pregnant and took the tests and they were negative, so she went to the doctors and THEIR test was negative. . . .a couple of weeks went by before she ever did get a positive. Good luck! :)

Go see your doctor or midwife. With our second, it took two weeks before we had a positive pregancy test...and we were testing EVERY morning during those two weeks.

Hi N.!!

I am thinking that as soon as you quit "trying" you'll get pregnant. Maybe you're too stressed out with the whole idea of it.
As far as being that late, I would go to the doctor. Why take any chances, you know.

God bless you!!!

I would see a Dr. Missing a period as I am sure you know can be a sign of a problem not just pregnancy. So see a Dr. and tell them you are late and haven't had a positive pregger test. What does it hurt.

I am someone who has fertility problems and here are some of the things I have learned about trying to get pregnant: The more you want to get pregnant, the harder it is. It took me 5 yrs to get child #2, because I wanted to be pregnant very badly and it took 24 months with #3 because I didnt want to have another baby right away. More often then not, if I thought about it too much, I would be late. It is frustrating, but when I learned to relax and let what ever happen happen, then it make bedroom life so much more fun!! Good Luck!! (and happy tryings!!)

Sometimes its purely you stressing about getting pregnant that actually keeps you from getting pregnant and that same stress will delay your period.
I was told I couldn't have kids but tried anyway and when I saw a doc that said you know what you will be pregnant within six months...We looked back and figured the conception date to be 2 weeks after that appointment.
I know its hard but stop worrying about it, it will happen!

Hi! I would try to stop worrying. I know, easier said than done. I would wait another week and see if your period arrives, and if not, retest at that time. The more you test, the more worried you're going to be. It's not very likely that you'd get 4 false negatives as HPT's are very accurate these days.
Maybe stop "trying" and just have fun with your husband and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know when it does happen! :)

My first two kids were surprises! When we tried for the third it took three years of trying! We finally got pregnant when we decided not to try anymore and started getting rid of baby clothes. Afer our third we decided we were crazy and are going for a fourth. Since it took so long with the third we started ASAP. When our third was six months I took a test and it was positive. Two weeks later I was bleeding but took another test that came out positive. We went to the doctor for a blood test and it was negative. But I hadn't had a period in two months. Even after the first round of birth control I still wasn't cycling. It wasn't until the end of the second that I bled and it was for a full two weeks! I've heard several stories on these very subject. I think there is something going on with birth control or something, especially since this problem is happening more and more. See a doctor...chances are they will tell you to wait and see. Everyone always says that it is when you stop trying that you succeed! Oh, and good luck! I have three boys and would love to have a fourth! They are so fun and crazy! The website I use is www.pregnancy.org
