my daughter is not 19.5 mo old started drinking out of a straw cup for past about 2 weeks. yesterday, all of a sudden has no desire to drink milk. she is not sick, no fevers or anything. may be teething. she usually loves milk. i don't know if i should switch her back to her silicone spout sippy or stick with straw cups. she is happy, not fussy and is eating other foods.

btw. thanks to everybody who helped me w/ my last question. love this website. it is very helpful to me.

When I weaned our son at 18 months, he pretty much quit drinking "milk" too. (Even bm in a cup!) We would still offer him some at meals but he would choose not to drink. He is now 3 1/2 and drinks milk fine when offered. I'd just keep offering and she will start again when she's ready! Just make sure to offer her WATER throughout the day. We always had a cup ready for the kids so they could drink as much H2o as they wanted!

I haven't read the other replies, but I just wanted to mention that it's not uncommon for kids this age to go threw "food phases" and that can go on for a year or more. I know my daughter had them, where she would LOVE something for a while, and then just get tired of it and not want it anymore... for a while, then be back to where she was. She still does this and she is now almost 3, although not nearly as much.

My daughter hates straw cups and they get clogged pretty easily. Try another cup, but if she doesn't drink milk it's ok. Just make sure that she gets plenty of cheese, yogurt, etc. to replace the calcium.

I agree with previous poster. Straws can get blocked or "gunky". Ick, I know.

My kids' tastebuds seem to change quickly and without reason. One minute they love a food/drink, and the next, they don't like it. I think I read where they taste buds do grow and change at certain ages. You could try almond milk instead. My daughter mostly drinks almond milk, but will occasionally drink cow's milk. That's why I changed- she was drinking 2% and had no issues and all of a sudden, wouldn't drink it anymore.

I wouldn't go back to the original cup, though. Stay with the straw, or give her a small amount in a regular cup.

Good luck

Did you try taking a drink out of it? Occasionally those straws get blocked or taste funny. Sometimes it takes several cleanings to get that strong "plastic" taste off of there. The straws are also tricky to clean, so make sure it doesn't taste like soured milk first. Another thing with sippy tippy cups and straw cups I had to try a few brands with both of my kids to find the ones they liked.

Hi S.P. Human are the only species that drink milk after a year old. I wouldn't worry about it especially since she is eating other food.
