My son has had nosebleeds since he was 4 yrs old. At times they are pretty bad. When he was 6 yrs old we took him to a ENT doctor and he had to put him to sleep and cauterize his nose three diffrent times. Now he is 8 yrs old and they are back worse than ever. His school called yesterday morning and I had to go pick him up, because the school nurse was not there to stop it. Today the school nurse called me at 10:00 saying he had a moderate nosebleed that lasted about 30 minutes. She was able to get it stopped. I went to pick him up after school and she suggested taking to see is dr. In the last 2 weeks he says his eyes hurt and he has headaches when it bleeds. We are going to the dr tomorrow to have some tests run. Has anyone else had these problems or know of anyone that has. Thx. in advance for any information.

my daughter has nosebleeds a lot but its due to dry air, she's very sensitive to dryness in the air. in the winter she has them every night if I don't plug in the humidifier, in the summer, about 3 or 4 a week if I forget.

I HAVE 3 GIRLS AND A HUSBAND THAT ALL SUFFER FROM NOSEBLEEDS. WE HAVE BEEN TO THE EMERGENCY FOR MY 8 YEAR OLD WITH THE BLOOD SQUIRTING FROM HER TEAR DUCTS DURING A NOSEBLEED TOOK HER ALSO TO AN EMT AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG OTHER THAN ALL OF MY CHILDREN HAVE EXTREMELY THIN LININGS IN THEIR NASAL PASSAGE. I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE IS NOTHING WORSE TO WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND YOUR CHILD IS STANDING THERE IN FRONT OF YOU COVERED IN BLOOD. THE BEST THING THAT I HAVE FOUND IS TO SIMPLY PUT VASELINE IN THEIR NOSE VERY THIN WITH A Q-TIP MORNING AND NIGHT THAT HELPS KEEP IT MOIST AND HELPS PREVENT THE DRYING OF THE LINING. I HAVE EVEN SENT MY 8 YR OLD DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL WITH A PETROLEUM TUBE SO IF SHE FEELS HER NOSE DRY SHE CAN EASILY APPLY A LITTLE IN HER NOSE WITH HER FINGER OR A TISSUE THIS HAS SEEM TO WORK VERY WELL FOR HER. WE HAVE HAD VERY FEW NOSEBLEEDS AT SCHOOL SINCE WE HAVE STARTED THIS. GOOD LUCK AND I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THE FRUSTRATION
I HAVE 4 OF THEM I HAVE TO WATCH OVER.

I also had this go on when I was about that age also. My doctor told me to use Afrin when it started and lean forward, and pinch the bridge of my nose. It is something that I really grew out of, but my Mom was extra careful during the "dry" times. Try also a humidifier in his room at night, and lots, and lots of water. I hope it helps. I hope the doctors figure something out for you two!

My niece has had really bad nosebleeds since she was little. They took her to the doctor and had her tested and she has Hemophilia C (I think it's "C"). It is very rare in girls, but more common in boys. YOu might want to have them test him for that.

after i had my baby, i started having terrible nosebleeds. i went to the ER once because i woke up with one and it wouldn't stop for over 30 minutes. when i got to the ER, the doc told me to try Afrin for a few days. it has a steroid in it to help shrink the blood vessels...after about 3 days I stopped having them and have not had another one in about 3 months. also try a humidifier or vaporizer to put moisture back in the air. This sounds gross...but does your son pick his nose? if so, he may have scrstched inside his nose and just keeps reopening the wound when he picks?

Hello M.. My son is 7 years of age and has had several nosebleeds since around age 4. He used to get them quite frequently, and often in the middle of the night or early in the morning. The doctor was unable to find a source for his nosebleeds but said that it could be allergies or maybe the air in my house was too dry and drying out his nasal passages. I purchased a humidifier for his room and it has worked great! I don't know if this could be what is going on with your son but I know that it has worked well for my son. He rarely has nosebleeds now and when he does, it's usually when we are away from home and in a dry environment. I hope that the doctor is able to find out what is going on with your son or has some other suggestions for you; I know it can be so frustrating!Take care! -Mel :)

My brother and grandpa both always had really bad nosebleeds. My grandfather also did the cauterization, but it only helped to a degree.
It's good you are taking him to the doctor; my brother grew out of his, but my grandpa always had them. I think had medicine been better back in those days they may have been able to ease them more.
I'm sure there could be plenty of things that woud cause it, from something as minor as anemia that can be taken care of with an iron supplement, to something more serious such as a blood issue, maybe a clotting thing. Let the doctor try and find out...and remember, if what they say doesn't satisfy you or help him, there are plenty of doctors on this earth that may be better equipped to handle the issue!

Sometimes this will require surgery to fix his nose. When I was his age I had the same thing going on and they told me that I had blood vessels that were to close to the nasel cavity and that is why they were so sensitive, but with him having headaches and things I would be asking many questions until you get all the answers.
