I use a Saline Nasal Spray when my son's nose gets "itchy" - it helps loosen things up and soften things up so he doesn't have to pick.
Hi there,
My 4 year old daughter keeps picking her nose constantly! I told her not to do it and use a tissue but she started hiding and picking her nose! Last night she came in the middle of the night and asked for water and I went downstairs to get her some,in the meantime (I'm guessing) she picked her nose and it started to bleed so bad she had blood all over her hand and cheek and on top of her lip!!After applying pressure it stopped bleeding,so I told her not to pick her nose but I am sure she will ones she wakes up since all that blood probably dried in there and it's going to bother her.Does anyone know how I can make her stop this habit??
What should I do to make he quit the nose picking???
I use a Saline Nasal Spray when my son's nose gets "itchy" - it helps loosen things up and soften things up so he doesn't have to pick.
This time of year the house gets dry, so I would also suggest putting a humidifier in her room at night.
My nose gets really dry and uncomfortable in the winter, too, and I tend to get so dry that my skin cracks. Dry, cracked skin is uncomfortable on your hands - try it inside your nose. She might be picking because it's uncomfortable? And once the scab forms, it's going to be hard and stiff, and also uncomfortable, and she might try to scratch at it. Try putting a tiny bit of Neosporin or Vaseline on the end of a q-tip, and applying it to the sore spot inside. It will help with the discomfort. I don't know what to do about the habit, but again, if she's not quite so uncomfortable in there, it'll help.
I have also used the vasoline on the qtip quite often on my son. He picks till it bleeds sometimes as well. If there is a little vasoline in there it will keep her nose moist but she also won't want to put her finger in there because of the vasoline. Good luck.
I was going to say the same thing as Amanda. Dry nose! Vaselene or even a chap stick (have one just for this). We have a humidifier going and it really helps.
Put some extra virgin olive oil in a small jar. Then dip one end of a Q-tip in it for one nostril and then the other end for the other nostril. Do it once a day and I think you'll find it will help as there will be little need to pick as the dry gunk won't be in the nose. I used this on my 6 year old granddaughter and the next day she asked for me to do it again. This is great for adults too in the winter when it is so dry in the house. Also, it is helpful to use a humidifier.--R. H.
