Normal Weight for a 30 Month Old Boy?

Hello mommies,

Does any one of you know a holistic nutrionist anywhere in Richardson or Dallas?

My 2.5 year old son has always been tiny (less than 5 percentile since birth), however my recent concern is that he has not put on much weight since his last wellness visit which was at 2 years. He was around 24 pounds then and now he is 24 pounds and 2 ounces. Should I worry about this?

I checked his weight at home, and don't have a proper growth chart to check his height. But he looks tiny in his class of 18 to 30 month olds, which really saddens me. But apart from his size, he is doing quite well terms of the school's work, language and comprehension. Only weight is an issue with him.

If anyone has any suggestions or if you can recommend a good preferably holistic nutritionist, that would be really awesome. I don't mind giving him vitamins and probiotics but i don't want to overload his system with unwanted chemicals in the tonics.

Thanks everyone and belated Happy Mothers day to all of you.
D.

My son didn't seem to gain any weight from his 2nd birthday until almost his 3rd birthday. Then he hit a growth spurt and gained about 5 pounds and grew 8 inches in 4 months. As long as your son has plenty of energy and is getting a good variety of food, try not to fret too much. He'll catch up in time!

My daughter was 18 pounds at her 2 year check up and started having growth spurts at around 3 years. She has always been on the low end of the spectrum, but she is very healthy.

If your son's development is on track then you have nothing to worry about.

Vitamins and probiotics won't make your son grow. He will just healthy and smaller than his peers due to body composition.
I give my kids avocados, whole milk kefir, coconut oil and all manner of foods with healthy fats. They are still skinny, but are thriving.

I understand your concern since we are always pushed to see where they are on this "chart". My feelings about it though is who says this chart is normal? The chart is based off of an average of kids, and considering our society is facing an epidemic of childhood obesity, this chart could possibly be very skewed.

My ds is 30 lbs at 32 months. Most of this has come on recently as he has decided he likes to eat finally LOL. I wouldn't worry about the 2 ounces in 6 months though. At 2 they start moving around so much and changing that their weight gain slows considerably. If he is healthy and continues to grow (even slowly) and get taller then I would say you are fine. i have plenty of friends with kiddos that have never even been on the chart and still are not at ages of 4 and 5. Go with your feeling of how healthy he is, not what some chart tells you :)

As long as your little guy is eating properly, is active, is actually growing some and is developing mentally, I wouldn't be concerned about his weight much at all. Little ones are active and they normally burn off waaay more than they consume in a day.

My 4 year old is barely over 30 lbs he's got my green bean figure. If he's always been tiny I wouldn't worry about it.

My 2.5 year old little man weighs 27 pounds, weighing 26 pounds at his two year check up. He's always been little, but he eats anything, sleeps well, and has energy for days! I don't think you have anything to worry about really. I have noticed the other 7 boys in his daycare class seem like they have grown a little taller, but I don't worry-- my guy is just little! Hope this helps!
