I'm thinking about getting the Non-hormonal IUD insert this week. Is there any problems with it?

Is anyone one this and like it or dislike it?

What can I do next?

I have the merana ( ? Sp) and have had great luck, no periods but I was wondering if anyone experienced low sex drive as a result of the hormone IUD?

You might want to check and see if there is copper in it, since some women are allergic to copper and expel their IUDs as a result.

I've been using the copper IUD for about 18 months now and am happy with it. My husband is VERY happy with it. The only effects I've had is spotting just before and after my period and more discharge is common. I chose it because it is hormone-free and it was a good choice for us.

Hi B.-
Although everyone's body reacts differently to IUDs, I had a not so good experience with it. I had the Paraguard in about a 2 years ago. I had to get it removed and another placed about 2 months later as my uterus had expelled it. I ended up having very heavy periods every month as well. I then had it removed in December of last year. In the beginning of January, I ended up with a tubo-ovarian abscess which landed me in the hospital. My GYN said it wouldn't of had anything to do with the IUD, that something would have to have come from outside the body. Could have been something when it was removed, etc. I just don't know. I just had a bad experience with it which I would not wish on anyone. Good luck in your decision. Like I said, everyone's body responds differently and there are so many women who have no problems at all.

Dont DO IT!!!
I as well as too sis in laws had it and it caused the longest heaviest periods on record! I went from 3 very lite days of periods to 10 heavy heavy heavy periods. It was stressful and frustrating. My primary care wont even use them she said they are so bad. (period wise) I have switched to the Merena and there is a small change in my periods but I have to wait 6-9 mnths before it has a full effect them. It is suppose to make them very lite and almost nonexsistant so far not the case so I am un decided at the moment. I know everyone is different but that was the worst thing I ever endured.

I was going to get a non hormonal IUD after my son was born. But the midwives nor the doctor that was going to do the procedure told me much about the procedure itself nor the side effects. So I looked it up on line and it sounds horrible! But it does not mean that any of those things are going to happen. Plus if you are only going to have it in for a year or two then I don't see the problem. I still never went ahead with it and now I am on baby #2 due this October and my son will only be 22 months old...LOL! But we are happy and now feel our family is complete. We both know 2 is plenty for us so I am getting my tubes tied.
I say again if you are only going to have it in for a few years then go for it, I would if I wanted more than 2. I would prefer something non hormonal myself as I have issues with hormonal type birth control, pills and ring.

Hi B.,
I got the IUD back in December and although it took my body some time to adjust, I love the convenience of it.
My periods were longer and heavier and come speratically for the first 5 mos or so. I also got bad cramps during when I would be ovulating. After the 5 mos, my periods have regulated and are lighter. It's also not too bad to have it inserted. Take a couple of motrin about an hour before and you'll be fine. It only takes a couple of minutes to insert and feels pretty much like a pamsmear.
I could never take the pill either. I've tried a bunch and they didn't agree with me.
I hope this works for you!

Hi B.,

I decided to get the Mirina about 6wks after I had my son, which is now 2yrs ago. I really did like the IUD, but unfortunately my body did not. I was probably the 1% that got an infection from it. You will know right away because just pressing on your belly where it is, will be sore. I would still suggest trying it out because the percentage is so small. I also know several people who have tried the IUDs & have not had a problem. Good luck w/whatever decision you make! Hope this helped!

I had the copper IUD placed about 3 months after my daughter was born (she's now almost 18 months) and haven't had a problem. The convenience is great. It pinched a bit while it was being placed but nothing to write home about. My periods are a bit heavier but were on the heavy side to start with so I don't really notice too much of a difference. My deciding factor was that I nursed my daughter until she was a year old and I didn't want to take the chance of any decrease in my milk production that could result from Merena (small chance, but possible). Good luck.

I love the copper IUD (non-hormonal one). I had it for 7 years then had it taken out to become pregnant, then after I had the baby, I had another placed. It did hurt slightly when being placed, but I love it. My periods are slightly heavier and I have a little more cramping. Good luck. M. S

I've had one in for about 10 months and chose it because it doesn't have hormones. Placement was very smooth and I don't ever know it's there. I do have heavier periods than I used to and have about 3 days of using both pads and tampons. It's wonderful to not have to worry about taking a pill. I have a 15-month-old and am not quite ready for #2.

Hi there
I had the non-hormonal one for about a year, and at the time I loved it- no side effects of the pill etc. I did have very heavy periods. That being said, I also got pregnant while I had it in- apparently if you have a heart shaped (bicorneate) uterus it cant hold onto an IUD. We found that out with the ultrasound I had when I had the pregnancy and the IUD together so they may not know (the shape of your uterus) otherwise. I begged to have an IUD again after my third (unexpected)child was born but the Dr wouldn't let me because she said I'd just get pregnant again. I also think its relatively rare for it to happen, but having them teach you how to check for placement is important.
Just my story, good luck!
E.
