S.M.
Life goes on. It's called keeping their house up. Would you rather have neighbors that let their property go to hell and back?
We are very lucky that the kids will sleep in until 7:30-8:30 on the weekends. However, this morning my neighbor across the street had roofers starting work at 8:a.m. on a Saturday. So, we woke to the sound of hammers pounding etc... at 8:00 a.m. I am sure that this does not violate any noise ordinance, but damn was it annoying. Obviously, I won't be saying anything to the neighbors so I am just venting here....

Meh...go mow the lawn while it's still nice and cool out.
Sorry you didn't get to sleep in :o(
Ahh, the sounds of the weekend. Usually it's lawnmowers and edgers. Be thankful its a temporary project and hopefully completed by next wknd. Everyone's up early, go do something fun.
Are you sure you aren't my neighbor pretending to live in Florida? We are currently putting a new roof on. We started around 8:30 AM. It needs to get done when it isn't going to rain. Small window of opportunity. If your neighbors were habitually noisy I could see why you would be annoyed but a roof job should only take 2-3 days. Roll with it.
At some point you will have to have work done on your house. Just remember today. :)
on a trip to our aunts wedding we stayed in town houses she provided. i stayed up late talking to my brothers. at 6 am the roofers began banging on the roof over my room. it totally freaked me out and woke me from my dead sleep. it truly sucked and we did not have to be at the wedding till that afternoon. but there was no sleeping late for us!!! :( we also have a neighbor that reves (sp) his motorcycle right in the middle of nap time! its truly annoying but thank God it usually dose not wake the kids. btw my son has been waking me at 6 for the past couple of mornings for no reason...i feel your pain .
That's probably just the normal time for roofers to start. Yes, it would have been nice if they'd let you know ahead of time, hey, we're having our roof redone this weekend. As annoying as it is to you, your neighbors are probably listening to it even closer. So if you see them, you can ask them if they have a headache yet...
My neighbors are SO horrified right now... same thing... they're having their roof redone, and their crew starts reeeally early (as soon as our noise ordinance lifts... as in they are already up on the roof and just waiting with their clocks).
We're lucky, though... we lived in apartments when my son was a baby... and nothin but nothin is louder than apartment living (except living on an airbase). Add in the 10pm no-noise rules, meant not only our elephant neighbors upstairs, and our music lovers next door, but that *I* was frantically running the dishwasher and washing machine the MOMENT my son was asleep. So he sleeps through *everything*.
I'm planning on adding onto the house, though, whenever I can get the capital saved up. So it won't be a week of banging, it will be MONTHS of it. I'm including $2500 gift baskets for my neighbors on either side of us (hotel stays, movie passes, posh drummers earplugs, wine, triple pane window installation for their bedrooms, etc.) in my budgeting. Hey. The whole project is going to run me about $100k, so I figure it's the bare min I can do for neighbor-management.
I hate, hate, hate noisy neighbors!
My wonderful new neighbors are out on their balcony at all hours of the night, drinking, and yelling, and what not all. the. time. Just the other night, on a weeknight, they are out there hootin and hollerin' and then I hear clink, clink, clink. What do you know, the damn neighbors are throwing beer cans at the fence! And any garbage they think would be funny to chuck out there too. And then few days later, a COUCH was thrown outside and left there for 3 to 4 days. Not nicely out there either, cushions were everywhere, and it was half laying on the fence. What an eye sore.
So annoying when people dont have respect for anyone else around them.
Sorry, that was my vent haha. But I do feel better, so thanks!
How is the weather there? Outdoor workers tend to start way early here because of the ridiculous heat. At least it wasn't 6am, right?!
If people work during the week, when else are they supposed to get the work done? I'm sure they want to be around to make sure nothing funky's going on.
I think if you live in a neighborhood with well, neighbors in houses, you're going to run into this from time to time.
I'll trade neighbors :-)!!
My neighbors have finally settled down. We moved in to our house almost 10 yrs ago and it was a constant battle to quiet them down. I almost had the police department on speed dial.
In the winter my neighbor snowblows his driveway at 4:45am. Everytime we get a heavy snow I know to go to bed early because I will be awoken bright and early! And his snowblower is LOUD. But other than that, I consider myself lucky because we live on a really nice quiet street.
Check with the city about mechanical noises. They are different that sound ordinances. We can shut down a whole construction site by calling the police about the noise if it is being made by something like a machine, a radio, a nightclub, anything that is a mechanical noise is usually a 24 hour a day ordinance.
Check with the city anyway, mechanical sound ordinances are different that just normal noise.
At least it's temporary! Our neighbors a few years ago had roofers that started at 7! This was when I was still in college and had no kids, so obviously I wasn't thrilled.
Of course, that night it was great. They were trying to finish up the roof before the incoming thunderstorms. We were hanging out, watching tv, and we're listening to the cachunk........cachunk........cachunk of the nail gun. Then there was a flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder, and we heard cachunk-cachunk-cachunk-cachunk. They were booking it to get it done! LOL
Be thankful it's only for a couple days! Our next door neighbors have dogs that bark all day, and they never shut up! Ugh!
So, I feel your pain. Good luck keeping your sanity for the next couple days! Hehe.
