Don't worry, this happens on occasion. Be prepared at all times for a super blow out tho when it does come :)
My son has not poop in 5 days, but has had wet diapers and seems fine. I feed him rice cerel at night and just started the oatmeal 2 days ago to see how he likes it( he loves both). Im only doing one at a time and only once a day, he's 4 1/2 months old. He is breast feed but I was giving him a little formula when i was out and stopped doing so, that is when I think he stopped pooping. Like I said he doesn't cry and trust me he is passing gas as well.
I have given him the gripe water yesterday and today once to see if that might help him go.
Should I be worried?
My son pooped yesterday and it was nice and thick which was sticky as well. Smelled like rose's. LOL
Thank you all for your answers that helped.

I would just give him oatmeal cereal and not the rice cereal. My daughter would get terrible constipation from the rice cereal. You might try some prunes and see if that will get him to go. It may also be that his body is adjusting to the new foods. If he doesn’t go in the next couple of days I would call your doctor.
No my son went a week without pooping and the doctor said it was ok, it is the rice cereal it is binding, best thing to do is give him either rice or oatmeal for 2 weeks then change to the other, sometimes too much switching of food and formula is hard on their digestive system plus if you want you can give him a little apple juice and that shoud help. it worked for mine.
Thank you for all responding to my question. I will put him back on rice cereal because he was fine on that and if nothing changes in a few days i' ll go see doc.
Rice cereal is constipating, also is it too thick for him maybe or are you making it fairly thin? Don't give him too much to start off until he adjusts to it too. You can give baby prune juice to him and it may help.
keep up his fluids and give more pears to him (prunes will give him gas and the prunes have more fiber thant he prunes --per baby food serving) rub his tummy. I'd do oatmeal instead of the rice cereal. don't let it go too long. Goog luck! ~C.~
If he's exclusively breastfed, then it's normal not to poop very often. Babies that are EBF can go up to 12 days without pooping because the breastmilk is used so efficiently in the body.
If you're giving him thinly made cereal in small amounts, it's very possible for him not to need to poop for several days. Since he's not crying, that's a sign that he's fine. No need to give him gripe water since he's not even fussing nor is he showing any signs at all of being constipated.
I would stop giving him gripe water and go back to breastmilk exclusively until he poops if you're truly worried about this. Gripe water is for babies who have colic.
All my babies went through this same constipation when starting solids.
Just be prepared for the massive, blow out, soon to happen when you least expect it and when you are least prepared.
You'll have to come back and tell us where it was.
For us it was usually in the car seat on the way somewhere nice and the poop would travel up their entire back to the top of their head and down to their toes. One baby it was soooo much I wanted to throw the carseat away as I couldn't hose the poop out.
Keep up the fluids and this will all pass.
I would be worried but my 9 year old has had chronic constipation all her life and it has been awful so with the rest of them I was always worried if they didn't poop for like a day! I use to mix 1/2 prune juice 1/2 w2ater. Or if you are very worried call the Dr. and ask.
Yes, you should be worried, but not paniced. Give the doctor a call tomorrow morning. It could just be a little consitpation or it could be the sign of something serious.
I would thin it out and add in more fruit to compensate.
Rice cereal is very constipating. My BF son went almost 10 days without pooping when I introduced rice cereal and when it came out it looked like grey clay. Going two weeks without pooping is NOT ok for any infant. Start giving him a bit of prune juice a few times a day starting now and consider giving him baby probiotics a couple times a week. I would get him off rice (and bananas) until he makes a bowel movement.
