Hola Mamas, Have any of you experienced this? I gave birth to my daughter one and a half years ago (vaginal birth, no complications). Breast fed her for three months and have had no periods since. Have had two pelvic sonograms, all normal. Two hormone blood tests (estrogen & progesterone) also normal. Otherwise, I feel great! I am only 45 and have no signs of menopause as indicated by the hormone levels. My doctors are baffled! Any clues will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What can I do next?

It took a long time for my period to return after both my daughters were born - and even longer the second time. I did breastfeed them both for a full year though and just figured that had something to do with it. My period didn't return until several months after stopping nursing completely. However, several of my friends had their periods return just a few months after the birth - even though they were breastfeeding.
Could it be the birth control that you are using? Sometimes that could affect your body in ways you wouldn't expect - especially if it's a new kind you haven't used before.

Well, first off it is really great to have your body get a break from cycling. If you are nursing still that could be one reason why you are not cycling. But I am sure you doctors asked you that already.

You could try using a topically applied progesterone cream to help you cycle if you are worried about it.

For more information go to the website of Dr. John Lee.

Nature's Sunshine has a great progesterone cream. They too are online. I get all my supplements from them. I just took a course in natural nutrtion and we swear by that line.

But pick up the books by Dr. John Lee on amazon.com or ebay for cheap and read them. They are very insightful even if you MD does not support the ideas. You can do natural and mainstream medicine together.

Also, I would get a B complex and magnesium/calcium, bioflavonoids C, and definitely some Omegas. Get them from Nature's Sunshine. Their Omegas can't be beat. Eat protein and if you can't digest it get some food enzymes. You are not made of broccoli, so you need protein. Broccoli is good too though! Vegetables are good as well.

Hope this helps.

I am not sure if you asked your question because you would like to get pregnant or because you just want your body to get back to normal, but I know that a Reproductive Endocrinologist can do a lot more tests than just sonograms and estrogen and progesterone to find out what the problem might be. A regular Gynecologist might not do complete testing. Did your doctor test your FSH? That is a key indicator of Menopause.
You might also try acupuncture and herbs. They can work wonders for getting your cycles back on track without the heavy drugs/hormones that a RE might suggest.

I can share a little of my story in case it helps.
I had my first child when I was 41, and I got my period back after about 6 months.I will be 44 in February and have been trying to get pregnant for about 15 months. I went to see an RE and they found that my FSH is very high so they believe that my egg quality is the problem. I underwent Assisted Fertility Treatments (IUI's) for about 6 months with no luck getting pregnant. I stopped treatments in August and although my periods came back right away and have been regular the past few months, I don't think that I am ovulating. I have been seeing an acupuncturist and herbalist and hope that she will be able to help me get my body back on track. My body has always responded well with acupuncture and herbs in the past.

I wish you all the best,
B.

If it's not broken, don't fix it. You sound like everything is in place and all is well. So, if you get to be period-free for awhile, enjoy it. Carry a pad in your purse, though, because it may come without warning at any time.

I waited a year before mine came back after both births. (I had mine at 38 and 40). A year and a half is long though! I don't know.
