Hello all. I recently had my Mirena IUD removed and switched to birth control pills the same day the IUD was removed per medical advice. According to the cycle of the pills I should have gotten my period this past Friday. Thus far, nothing. I took two pregnancy tests because I'm paranoid and the first one came out without a line in the test window so I had to run to the store to get another. I look it and it was negative. My question is does anyone know if it is common for it to take some time for your cycle to get back on track after IUD removal and/or after starting the pill? Also, is a negative pregnancy test common when one is in fact pregnant? I realize that if I don't get my period soon I cannot start the new pack of pills. Should I wait a few months (chemical free) to see if everything returns to normal? I don't have any medical insurance and don't want to dash off to the doctor only to get my period one week later. I need peace of mind, please!
You should be able to call the office where you got your prescription and talk to a nurse about your questions. But, I would bet that it might just take a while to adjust. And, like others have said, I know of no reason that you can't start your next pill pack whether you've gotten your period or not.
Call your doctor or nurseline if you are unsure, but I would start my new pill pack right on schedule even if I had not bled. As others have said, periods while on the pill are not real periods, just bleeding induced by the change in hormones caused by the pills, so your lack of bleeding is not likely caused by pregancy, just the adjustment to the change in birth control method. Many women have very light (or no) bleeding while taking the pill.
Hey my sister did the same thing, however she did not go on the pill. When she got her IUD out she didn't have her period for 3 months! So yes, I think it is normal
I think that is totally normal. I recently had my Mirena removed because we decided we wanted to try for one more and it took about 50 days for my period to start again. They said that the cycle should start normally, but I don't think it does.

I just had one put in, but I can say that I went though enough pills that it can take 3 or 4 months for your body to adjust to the new cycle. The pill that you take now is for next months cycle.
Not having your period really isn't that uncommon after switching birth control metods. As for not being able to start your new pack, unless your doctor gave you specific reasons why you can't, i don't see why you can't start the next pack. I used to skip the sugar pills every once in a while if I had a special event like a wedding I really didn't want to have my period during. Your periods while you are on birth control are chemical induced not ovulation induced so you can manipulate it some without major risk.
You have to give your body time to adjust from the switch. I remember even in switching pills it took my body over a month to adjust (I always was a week or so late after the switch).
You can have a negative pregancy test even if you are pregant. Wait a few days and take another test. Morethenlikely it is just your body adjusting to the recent change of birth control.
