I am a 29 yo cancer survivor. I went through a very strong dose of chemo to get rid of Hodgkin's lymphoma from 12-04 till 5-05. I was given a shot to put my ovaries to sleep, so that they would not be ruined after the chemo was done.
Well, I'm just about back to normal, but still no period. If anyone has any idea on how I could get it back, I'd be great full for any suggestions. I really would love to have another child.
When I wrote about my issue, I was pretty much feeling hopeless, but with all of the feed back I've gotten, I am now a little hopefull. I really want to thank all of the moms who have responded to my request. It really means alot to me. Thanks for the advise, and kind words.
I made an appointment with an OBGYN, and plan on asking about the different drugs you all suggested.

I didn't get my period for close to 2 years after having my son. My OBGYN gave me Progesterone pills for about a week. I got my period shortly after that.
talk to your Dr. that is the best advice I can give you. Also if they talk about fertility drugs CALL YOUR ONCOLAGIST (ok so i spelled it wrong) the drugs that boost your fertility can also boost the other levels in your body and MIGHT cause problems with your lymphoma.

just a mom whose dad went through cancer treatment and I think we would all really be upset if your cancer relapsed as a result of not talking to your Dr.s.

When I was 21 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease. I was treated from December 96 until July 97...relapsed and underwent Stem Cell Replacement therapy from November 97 until March 98. Upon starting the second round of treatment I was told I would never be able to conceive my own children and that I would probably need to look into egg donation if I wanted to carry a child. Prior to starting all of my chemo, I went on the birth control pill to prevent ovulation. 6 months after completion I came off the pill and started to go into menopause. Seeing as I was not in a relationship nor ready for a baby,I went back on the pill to keep horomone levels balenced.
In August of 2003 (Married 1 year) I came off the pill. My cycles returned but not regular at all. After trying for 1 year, my doctor put me on clomid...we conceived our first child three months later. Amanda is now almost 18 months old and perfect! We found out in October that we are pregnant with baby number two due in June!
I guess my point is...positive attitude/outlook and the right medication to jump start your fertility...my guess is you will have that housefull of kids.

You might have to do cycles of clomid and provera to wake your ovaries up.

Talk to your OB/GYN. I know some women who have PCOS, and that can cause really long cycles, or no cycles. They can do a trigger shot (progesterone, I think), to bring on menstruation. The only thing is, I don't think this stimulates ovulation, just menstruation. If you're getting your period, but not ovulating, then you're not getting anywhere. The best person to talk to really would be your gynecologist.

In there she talks about ways to find out what is going on with your system--I'd really recommend reading it (a lot of libraries have it) and then going to talk with your GYN.
You'll be able to give them much more information and ask many more questions after reading the book.
Hi, I felt compelled to write to you; hope it helps. I don't know your religious beliefs;I'm NOT one of those bible tote-ing preacher types. I just have a strong belief & love of God in my heart. Anyway-- I believe God has plans for all & things happen for reasons. My brother (age 42) died suddenly (heart attack)a year ago (in front of his wife & kids)A few months later, his wife took off leaving their(my neices) 2-little girls orphans (at ages: 7&9). It gave me a first hand look at DFYS & how the system works(?);it's sad. It's tearing me apart to watch these little girls suffer, feeling un-loved & worrying about where their Mom is & praying "God will bring Daddy back" (while some think they should be "over it" already). I'm not in a position to have them live w/me & I guess they're OK (not best or worst) living w/my sister. Well basically I just wanted to say just as you have so much love YOU want to share with a child -- that there are also many unloved & lonley children out there just waiting & praying to have the chance to share the love THEY feel w/a Mom! I truly pray that you will be OK & able to have your own -- however,if not don't let that love & desire you feel to raise a child go wasted; keep adoption in mind. God Bless.. G
I have a friend that had the same cancer and she was without children when she developed it. She now has two children, so I think that you should get evaluated by a specialist. Try homopathic solutions too. There is a really good book on understanding womens health called "The Natural Guide to Womens Health." I forget the author, but I bought it at Amazon. I would highly recommend it. It really gave me a lot of information about my reproductive system.
