No Longer the Perfect Sleeper.

My baby is 4 mos old and is in the 90% for height and weight. She was sleeping for five and six hour stretches but in the last three weeks she has been waking up every two hours. I don't know what happened. I thought it was a growth spurt but it's been three weeks already. I took her to the pedia and she says to "lay her down when she's drowsy". That's all the advice she gave me. I'm a SAHM, she's breastfed and she nurses all day long. She loves to eat. At night she nurses and she doesn't always go back to sleep, I have to rock her sometimes. Does anyone have any experience with this? Nothing in our routine has changed. She only takes 4 half hour naps during the day and I have to hold her. I have also been carrying her around with me instead of putting her in the bouncy seat while I go around the house, I thought this would make her more secure and not be so needy at night. That doesn't seem to be working. I feel like I'm starting some destructive habits by nursing her every two hours all night long. I have tried rocking her back to sleep and she just wants to nurse. Is there any solution?

My youngest daughter is a twin and was premie by 7 weeks...so she wasn't in the 90th percentile on height and weight (still isn't actually) she wasn't even on the chart...lol...but...she did have the same experience you are claiming when she was about that age....honestly...the ONLY place we could get her to sleep for any REAL length of time, including night was in her swing.

She needed the movement for some reason. I do not understand it, but that is what worked for us...AND she was not happy in the travel swing, it HAD to be the big expensive swing and set to side to side instead of front to back...best $70.00 expenditure we made...it saved us a lot of sleepless nights once we figured out that she would sleep there and accepted it...

Good Luck!!! ;-)

I think she is needing less sleep during the day and is ready for some activities. Do not put her down so often for a nap. Cut back to one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Give her tummy time on a blanket with toys within and out of her reach. Put her in her swing, not to put her to sleep but to enjoy the ride. Get a back pack carrier (if her neck is strong enough) and let her ride back there while you do your other stuff.. Read to her. Lay her on her back and let her play with a hanging activity set. Go out and go places while she is awake. Breast feed her and then go somewhere. Put her in the stroller sitting slightly ups so she can get a new view.

This will help you get things done, but also start a new schedule for her.

I have found why most babies have a hard time sleeping. It is because they are sensitive to something in your home. We live near power lines and have gotten a Total Shield to guard our house from the energy it puts off. Both my boys sleep threw the night and have since they were born. My two year old also wakes up dry every night. I recommend you remove any electrical things that are near your little ones beds and see if you live near power lines, electrical box, etc. Our boys also wear a multi polar magnet. My doctor told me about these things and they work.
