I am a 27 year old mom of two (three if you count my husband). My problem is this: I have absolutely NO energy. From the time I wake up until I go to bed. I have started walking for 30 minutes at lunch every day with some girls from work. In the afternoons, I am SO exhausted I could just fall asleep at my desk. So, needless to say that when I get home I am ready to go to bed! Although, being a mom we all know that doesn't happen. I will say that the exercise does help me sleep at night, but isn't it supposed to help me have energy? Is there something else I can do for more energy? I am just CONSTANTLY tired... From morning till night! HELP!
I TOTALLY agree with what Tamara said. This same thing happened to me a few years ago. I would even fall asleep in the middle of conversations with people! In the middle of the day! Then I realized it was because of my diet too. I didn't have much money at the time and was eating a LOT of potatoes and other very starchy foods and not very many fruits and vegis. Now I have balanced meals and I'm doing great. Good luck!

I have chronic fatigue and an immune disease so I have definite issues....But you should talk with a doctor to verify there is nothing medically wrong.
Depression causes fatigue also.
But I recommend taking a sublingual B12 tablet every morning. Although it sounds funny, I would also come off caffeine. Caffeine messes with sleep patterns.

I drink MonaVie and it has changed my life. I know that feeling you are talking about. I have 3 kids and work part-time and I didnt have time to be exhausted all the time.
MonaVie is a blend of 19 of the worlds most nutritious fruits pureed into a bottle. It is mostly made up of the acai berry which is getting MAJOR press for being a natural source of energy. I can point you to lots of articles and news stories.
Besides energy, I am sleeping better than ever, have all but gotten rid of my foot pain, joint pain and headaches. Not one member of my family has been sick in over a year now and my kids are off their asthma and allergy medicine. Four ounces a day gives you the nutritional equivalent of 13 common fruits and veggies!! This stuff is AMAZING!!!!
I could go on an on. If you would like more info, just let me know.
Good luck to you. I hope you get a handle on this, I know how hard it is to be the mom you want to be when you feel like this.

Good morning S.,
I had the same problem. I was tired all of the time and had no energy. When I started working out I felt tired still. What I did next is what helped the most. I started watching my diet. I kept a journal of what I ate on a normal basis for one week. I noticed that I was not getting enough fruits and veggies. On top of that I was eating way to many complex carbohydrates. I started myself on a well balanced diet and kept up the exercise. Also try more organic foods. There are less chemicals in them. Be sure to take a multivitamin everyday. Yet make sure it is one that will break down well. The true test of this is to put a vitamin in a glass of water and it should completely break down. Only a powndery looking water should be in the glass. I take a Herbalife multivitamin that comes in smaller dose tablets that you take more often. They suggest three times a day I only take them 2 times a day. That is all my body needs. Remember, everyone of us is different. Get to your doctor for a full physical and go from there. Keep your chin up and God Bless you and your family.

My daughter was feeling like this, she is 30 years old and has 4 kids and works. Figured it was just because she is always busy. Went to the doctor, and her thyroid was not working properly! They put her on synthroid and she is back to her normal self! I would definitely recommend a doctors visit and if everything is okay, then look at your diet. Are you getting enough of the right things to eat and add some GOOD vitamins to your routine. I take the Melaleuca because they break down in your system better, they are fructose based and therefore more natural. My daughter added those to her routine and is feeling so much better between the two she can't believe it. Hope this helps!

I have the same problem. It started when I was 27 or 28 (I'm 33, now). It was bad enough I made a career change because the job I had was fastpaced & high pressured, thinking that was my problem. The next job I took was lower paced & I had more stable hours & I still could have crawled in a corner somewhere & slept at any given time. This was VERY odd for me as I have NEVER been a sleeper. I still have the problem, but it's not as severe. I was told when I was younger (like 18 or 19) I had early signs of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome but it's hard to find a doctor that specializes in that & if they will diagnose it - it's only after they have ran EVERY test in the book to rule out every other possible cause & I'm not one for being the Dr's guinea pig. Some other likely causes are Heart Disease (it's more common in younger women that people like to talk about) fatigue is one the first warning signs of Heart Disease. Also, sleep apnea, so if you are sleeping & still feeling tired it may be the cause. Walking is VERY good for either of the last two problems. Walking is one of the best things you can do for your body period. Hope you find your answer - it's frustrating!

Hi S.,
Go to your doctor and have them check your thyroid levels. You could be hypothyroid. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism because I was always tired, and had no energy like you. Good luck!

No energy can have a lot to do with diet or thyroid issues. (Go to drbrownstein.com - he is THE go to guy for thyroid issues. I have his book/cd combo, overcoming thyroid disorders). For diet - are you eating a lot of boxed, canned, & process foods? These things are missing fiber & whole food nutrients. Eating a lot of the "whites" like flour, sugar, salt - can deplete your B vitamins. Goood supplementation is crucial for everyone since our food supply is missing the nutrients it had 50 years ago. At LEAST a multivitamin & some B complex. Don't go "cheap" either b/c you'll be wasting your money. It takes a lot of money to research good materials that aren't contaminated & to make the proper formulations that your body can digest & absorb. We take Shaklee & nothing else.

I have struggled with the same thing but it started to happen when my son was born...coincidence????? :). All I could think about (and still do) is when I could go to bed again...basically counting down the hours to bedtime...I actually got my thyroid checked and it came back normal but you might want to have that checked out. If it's not working correctly then that will really make you tired. Good luck!

You should probably call your doctor and go in for a visit.
A blood workup would be ideal b/c your thyroid might not be functioning properly or you could be anemic.... both can be controlled with some medication.

I have been trying to get a handle on this same thing for years and years. I've tried so many things. I do okay for awhile when I listen to meditation tapes which helps me sleep better at night. I do a little better when my eating is spot on perfect with lots of veggies, little sugar and steering away from much in the way of bread or pasta. As time goes on though, it just keeps getting worse. My doctor says that some people suffer from what they call day time somnolence. If I spelled that right, it just means excessive daytime sleepiness without a specific cause.
In my case I get up too often at night to go to the bathroom and I'm not a good candidate for the meds that are supposed to handle that. My sleep is too broke up. After I finish losing weight, I'm going to try a drug that he says is for this. It's basically a type of energy pill and I can't remember the name. But he says it's totally safe and can be taken for many years without any side effects. But I need to get the weight off first.
This whole last month I've been too sick to take my phentermine which is for the diet. That stuff makes me feel totally energized. I am thinking of filling the script today and getting back on the wagon.
I wish I had better advice to give. But I would first look at your diet and try and lose a few pounds if that is a problem. Don't give up on the exercise. I've been doing the same thing and It's all I can manage to walk 1.5 blocks to the park, around the track once and back home. I've been doing it 2-3 times per day with the daycare kids. Their little legs can only go so fast so it's not like we are doing it fast!

How much water are you drinking a day? Increasing your water intake can really boost your energy level. The majority of people are chronically dehydrated and your body can't function at its best when your lacking water. Divide your body weight in half - that's how many ounces of water you should drink a day.
The other thing that comes to mind is could you be pregnant? That was my first sign that I was pregnant with my firstborn.

Hi S.-
I have to tell you that you have a lot of advice to sift through. I'd like to add something to it. Although you think you are sleeping well you may have sleep apnea. I could go into a lot of info but the bottom line is you think you are sleeping souund when you are actually wakeing up hundreds of time every night..Talk to your doctor about all the possiblities. He'll know what to do but they rarely suggest a sleep study. It is just my opinion but I beleive everyone should have one. It's amazing what all they can find out..Good luck with what ever you choose to do..just do it soon..Have a wonderful weekend..

Hi S., you might have low iron....do you have PCOS (Polysystic Ovarion Syndrome)? it shadows diabetes...I have it and when I feel drained with no energy at all, either my iron is low (because I'm anemic as well), or my blood sugar is low...so you might want to check with your doctor and have some blood work done....

Sounds like you have a lot of good suggestions, of course, look at your lifestyle and eating habits, exercise, enough sleep, healthy food, little caffeine, etc. I would also suggest making an appointment with a good doctor. There are many things that could be wrong. I had low hormones (testosterone and esterol) and hypothyroid. Think of your other symptoms to report too (I had lots of headaches). It doesn't hurt (much) to get some bloodwork done and take the time to see your doctor. I hope that you'll find something that helps you as much as figuring out the hormones helped me!

Good Morning S., sounds like low blood sugar. But right now since the time change, when I wake up First thing I think of is how many hours until I can go to bed again...lol Time changes haven't affected me before so it is probably my Maturing Age catching up with me.
Except our daughter in law is having the same problem, when she gets home she is exhausted. She mentioned last week sitting in a meeting she had to stand up a minute cause she was getting so sleepy.
Have a check up and discuss it with your Dr. It might be a little bit of low blood sugar. I take Vitamins daily and chase little ones and want to nap when they do.
God Bless and hope you can find an answer very soon.

Definitely get a second opinion. This can be very serious but it fixable. It has something to do with the ventricles. I'm taking my 2 year old grandson to a specialist on April 10 as he has had a CT scan and this is one of the things that has shown up. Please do get a second opinion. As a grandma that has hesitated in the past -- always double check everything you question for the second time. If you gut feeling is that you need to do something do it. Good Luck. 58 year old Grandma raising 2 year old grandson.

Have your doctor check your vitamin d levels and calcium, also your testosterone levels. I was feeling the same way and my vitamin d levels were so low. I can't remember what the "normal" number is supposed to be but mine was at 14 so the doctor told me I was way under average. Anyway, now that I am on a regimin of vit d taken with calcium (which you have to do in order for it to absorb into your system) I have so much energy. I am hardly ever tired and actually have trouble sleeping at night now because I don't burn off enough of my energy during the day. LOL Good luck

I agree with several of the posts...go to the doctor! I, too, had this and it turned out to be a low vitamin d level and insulin resistance (pre-cursor to diabetes). Especially this time of year vitamin d levels get low due to less activity outside in the sun. Thyroid and vitamin b levels are also very apt to make you exhausted. The best thing you can do is go to a doctor. I would recommend an Endocrinologist they specialize in these kind of things (and I went to 5 doctors before my endocrinologist). The very first appt my endo said I think you have insulin resistance and maybe a vitamin deficiency and sure enough she was right on the money. The best thing you can do is pay very close attention to how you are feeling...like are your nails brittle, is the tone of your skin changing...getting darker, is your skin excessively dry, loss/gain of appetite etc. Make sure to write down every symptom you notice because that will help the doctor significantly. It was well worth my trip to the doctor...I have loads of energy now and it was a very simple fix. Besides all us mommies know we don't have the time to be exhausted, we have way too much to do! Good Luck! :)

This is going to sound really strange, but I read it in Woman's World when I was having an "energy crisis" myself. It said that if your bowels have old toxins in them, it can cause you to be sluggish. And, what causes your bowels to slow down more than being pregnant/having a child?! Anyway, it has nothing to do with how often you are going to the bathroom, it has to do with what gets "stuck" way up in the intestines. The article had a recipe for a mango and papaya smoothie, and I can't find the recipe to save my life right now. Basically, it was mango, papaya, strawberries and a few other tropical fruits (NOT BANANA!) and you mix them up with a little bit of pineapple juice and some Miralax. The Miralax is a VERY gentle softener, so you shouldn't get diarrhea from this. The article said that you should do one of these smoothies once a day for about a week and it should help clear out the old toxins and help you feel better. I hope that this works for you.

Hi S.!
I would think of several things at this moment, but you probably you should ask to your family doctor. May be you are pregnant, or having a problem with hypothyroidism (I have it), anemia, or may you have to change your diet and drink more fluids (no juices, no milk...just more water)
I found out that besides my problem with the thyroid, I was eating or drinking in the wrong way. I am not eating too much sugar like I used to eat, and I am drinking more plain water and having more fruits and vegetables. But mostly avoiding sugary things changed my day!!!
Another thing to think of is how is your sleep? How many hours do you sleep, at what time do you go to bed.
Exercise is always great for everything. If you feel like doing it, just do little steps, if not do not push yourself into it until you know what is the problem you are having. Exercise will help you to have more energy if you check first of all your diet, any problem with the thyroid, or something that you doctor may find.
Take care,
Alejandra

I agree with most of the advice you have already received. Just wanted to add my two cents. In addition to checking your thyroid and eating fruits and veggies, make sure you eat plenty of protein. I was so tired that I had trouble making it through the day and when I checked, I realized I wasn't eating enough protein. I added protein shakes and things like tuna and chicken. Much better ever since. Hope this helps.
