My 6 month old son doesn't blink. Doctor has no clue. Anyone else run across this? I can't seem to find any information

1. His pediatrician watched him for about 2 minutes and he didn't blink once =( She said "I have never been asked that question before." She says she will research it and get back to me (which I know she definitely will). She doesn't want to give me a referral until she knows what direction to start in.

2. He makes eye contact, follows objects with his eyes, focuses fine and reacts to noises like normal. The only time he rubs his eyes is when he is tired.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I will definitely bring them to the pediatrician

What can I do next?

Did your pediatrician give you a referal? I would go to a pediatric opthomolgist and a pediatric neurologist, for starters. I hope you get an answer quickly, it is making me uncomfortable for him just thinking about it!

Does he stare up a lot? I just saw a clip on a show where the baby (older then your son) stared up at the ceiling all the time. It is a rare condition and has a real name. Check with your doctor(s). Seems like his eyes would get "dried" out if he hardly ever blinked?

Good Luck!

After reading this I did a Yahoo search of "baby doesn't blink" and got quite a few results. I didn't read them all, but I'd suggest you try your own search if you haven't already. While I do think it is something to keep an eye on (no pun intended), I don't think at this point it's something to send you into overdrive. If his eyes are performing normally and meeting age appropriate standards otherwise then for now he seems good. And I did see results that mentioned infants blink at a slower rate. I hope that everything turns out fine. Please keep us posted. ~A.

Wow, weird. Does he make eye contact normally or have any other wierd eye behaviors. Does he complain or rub his eyes a lot? I would take him to an opthamologist.

Ever? Infants blink must less than adults do so if it's only one or two times in a minute than that is normal.
