Hey Moms!
Thinking of getting my daughter a Nintendo DS for Christmas. Costco happens to have a coupon out for the DS XL. Not sure what the difference is for the different styles. Is that a good one for a 5 year old?
Just a warning---they are addictive. Our kids got DSs for a gift and they would get cranky every time they had to stop playing with them.
It helps to set rules about when and how long kids can play with them---at least until the novelty wears off. =)
Go for the DSi XL.
It is a bit more than the DSi Lite and regular DS, but worth it! The screen is much larger than on the other two styles. We have both the DS Lite and the DSi XL. The difference on the screen size is amazing. With the DS Lite, my son holds the game just about at his face. With the XL he can hold it down at his lap and still see what is going on.
The XL has a bigger screen and the same camera that the DSI has and then there are other extras that might be too old for a 5 yr old. The DS Lite is more basic. Make sure you get the armor/cover so that if she drops it, it does not break so easily.
My son got the DS lite for his birthday. They r regular 129 but you can find them on sale for 119. I think the bigger ones come with internet and all kinds of other stuff kids really don't need and use. Hope that helps. My son really likes it but is really good about not playing to much with it.
I have been thinking about getting my six year old one for christmas. Seems as if this is the only game that has a good selection of educational programs/grames.
