Nighttime Nursing

I've nursed my now 15month old in the past at night when she woke up but it always turned into a nurse fest as she would start to wake up more and more often just to nurse (as much as every hour which lent us both to being too exhausted to function). When she was old enough to understand, I told her that she would have to wait until it was light out to nurse. My problem is that she is usually ready to wake up at 5:30 and now that it is getting light later, I'm not sure what to do. At first I thought that the later sunrise would help her sleep later. Not the case. She is attached to her morning milk. I'm afraid if I start nursing her at 5:30, she will revert back to her old ways. What have other moms found helpful in a situation like this? Thanks so much for your help! L.

The easiest thing for us is just putting the baby in bed with you then she can nurse away and you can get some more sleep!! She is probably going through a "phase" maybe teething or learning to talk or something that is causing her to need some early morning comfort. They are only little once so just try to enjoy this time :)

I never did understand why drs. started having babies getting fed "on demand", every hour like that. It makes it harder for normal eating habits to form (and sleeping habits). Learn from this if you have another child in the future and best of luck honey.

My 11 month old is going through this stage as well. She goes to sleep btw 7:00-7:30 every night and wakes up btw 4:30-5:30 to nurse and goes back to bed for another hour or so. I spoke to her doctor about this and he said give it to her if she seems to need it. Some babies like to have an early morning drink. My first daughter did the same thing and I thought her phase would never end and it did. She is now 3! Just enjoy the bonding time you are having together.

My 2 sister-in-laws and myself all have babies who do this. We blame it on teething. At this age, unless your ready for alot of crying, just nurse her. It can't last forever, hopefully!

I agree with the PP.
It's annoying, but it will pass, and she probably just needs you.
Whenever I think about "how do I get my baby to stop this..." I think about my mom saying, "she won't walk down the aisle that way" which is what her grandmother used to tell her about me.
Hang in there!

It is a phase and they do grow out of it. My daughter did the same thing and now she sleeps late at 19 mos. If you can, be there for her and remember that this is such a short time of her life. You are building a bond that lets her know you are always there for her and will give her what she needs (in order to do this I had to stop nursing so my husband could help by giving her a bottle some mornings so I could sleep, but it did pass!)
