My three year old daughter has been having drenching night sweats on and off for several months. She recently had ear infection and was put on Omnicef (no decrease in sweats). She has been a little more lethargic than usual...but she also is going to bed later 9 verses 730 due to not wanting to goto sleep. She has no weight loss, fevers, no GI/GU issues, no apparent lymph node swelling. Does has chronic runny/stuff nose and a moist cough for the past three weeks. Her night sweats have been on and off for three months. ALl of this has been going on since my son was born twelve weeks ago. Some of the issues (not wanting to sleep) I attributed it to the newborn. Any advice would be great. I am taking her to the doctor tomorrow and hopefully they will check a CBC and blood sugar. Unfortunately I am a post-partum worrier and of course am thinking the worse.

When you say night sweats do you mean the kind that make her wake up and need to change her PJ's? Has she had frequent infections besides the ear infection? I'm sure that it is nothing, but to make everyone involved feel better, I would insist on a complete blood count and a thorough physical exam and maybe even a liver panel.

I know you may already have taken her to the doctor so I hope a resolution was found. However, you may want to rule out pneumonia. My son had night sweats, fever, lethargy and cough after a treated ear infection, and it turned out to be pneumonia. Took 2 weeks for provider to order the chest xray after I had taken him back 3 times. Also, you may want to make sure her ear infection actually is gone. She may need another course of antibiotics. Good luck to you!

Some medications can cause night sweats, and nightmares (night terrors).

My sons are all very hot natured. I just put a ceiling fan in their bedrooms and keep them on literally all night and anytime they are in there.

Sometimes, it gets cool and they will just pull on some covers. But it sure beats them waking up with wet hair every morning!
