I am trying to find a good night light for my son. He has not exposed plug-ins in his bedroom so I can't just plug a traditional one into the wall. Lately he has been really upset with how dark it is in his room and I want to find a fairly bright one but not as bright as leaving a lamp on at night. Any ideas? (Sorry, by no exposed plug-ins I mean that there are dressers and beds in from of them so it wont be birght enough if I stick one behind them).

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions!! I decided to go with the Tutle that lights up. I picked it up at a local children's store yesterday and my son just LOVED it!!! He slept like a baby last night and I was so happy! I was telling everyone at my office about it and now they all want to get one for their child or grandchild. Thanks again!!!

A small aquarium? This might not be an option, but I had one as a child and loved to fall asleep watching the fish.

I use a small lamp with a colored bulb in it for my kids. The bulb is a dark blue, so it gives off some light while not being bright at all and the lamp sits on top of a dresser. They love the color too!

Hi Annie,
We got a Cloud B turtle for my son and he LOVES it.

Here is a link so you can see what it is: http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Twilight-Turtle-Constellation...

It takes batteries (I think 3 AAA). It has a button to turn on and you can pick from brown, blue, or green lights. The light shines through the turtle's shell and puts stars and a moon on the ceiling and walls. It turns off by itself after 45 minutes. It is bright enough to where our son can "see" in the dark, but not so bright that he cannot fall asleep with it on. It has been money well spent.

Hope that helps!

We found one at Target with a long cord. We put it where he can't reach it but it still can provide light. It has a rechargeable LED so you don't have to use it plugged in although ours always is. It was in the section near the kids bedding stuff. Good luck!

What do you mean by no exposed plug-ins? Are there any behind furniture, for instance? Or do you have to try to find a battery-operated night light? I may have some ideas, but am not sure which way to go. Until you get more answers, you might try some light sticks. They're not expensive--unfortunately, you can only use them once and then they go into the landfill, but for a short-term solution, they might work.

We put the tiny Christmas lights around the top of our girls room. They plug in behind a dresser and she has no access to the plug and the cord is taped to the wall behind the chest and over to behind the bedroom door so it is out of the way. They plug in to each other and they can be as long as you like or as short too. One strand is not very bright and I can see her face and body clearly enough to tell she is breathing and which way she is turned and stuff like that.

You can also buy them in colors, blue, white, pink, red, etc...and multicolored, it's a lot of fun to switch them out for the different seasons and holidays. They can twinkle or be just turned on too. They can be really festive and are not something usually seen in a bedroom.

My daughter just got a "Night Gaurdian" for her birthday. It has two remote nightlights that you can set anywhere in the room and it comes with a stuffed animal (the night gaurdian) that your child sleeps with. When they get scared they squeeze the animals hand and the lights come on. They are very dim and stay on for about 5 minutes. Here is a random website for a bunch...

We have one like this for our daughter's nightstand: http://www.target.com/Circo-Car-LED-Nightlight/dp/B003DMA...

Sorry for the long link!! Hers is a polar bear (white). It can either be plugged in, or can charge during the day and then be unplugged at night. Since its a rechargeable LED, it doesn't get hot - so sometimes she even sleeps with hers! :D

We had to find some solution once the girl started trying to unplug the traditional nightlights in her room! So, my mom found a cute rechargable night light at target for ~$12. It's shaped like a mushroom, but I've also seen them shaped like a "blob" person. They can last up to 2 nights on one charge, and fully charge in a day. Very cute and safe. We set it on the dresser, but she sometimes grabs it and puts in her crib under her covers. Not very bright, but enough light to find the cup of water, blankets, or just check in on the baby.

I put a very low-wattage bulb in a regular lamp on my son's dresser. That worked really well for a few years.

Now he likes it to be pitch-black in his room!

How about a light dimmer switch for the ceiling light? They are fairly cheap at Home Depot or Lowes and are easy to install. We have them in all our of bedrooms for when my dh has to leave for work early in the morning and doesn't want to wake me up. Also use them for when the grandkids are here, as they are use to nightlights.

I bought a mobi light (tyke light glow mate) for my 5 and 2 1/2 year old. It is a little guy who glows( you set it on a base to recharge) and they can take it with them to the bathroom or even sleep with it(my 2 yr old son has done that). I bought mine from Babysrus but you can get them at Target also. They are around 20 bucks for the large size and 15 bucks for the hand held size(the ones we have). I think this would be perfect.

Good luck:)

Target and Ikea both now have night lights that have cords and are also rechargeable. You can use it either way - it doesn't need batteries. So, you can plug it in behind something and use it that way - or if you want to you can use it unplugged. They are a soft white plastic like material. The Ikea ones are called Spoka (if you want to see it on their website). The target ones look like little animals - there is a bird for sure. They have a soft colored glow and just need to be bopped on the head for on off. Both my kids have had one for years.
Good luck!

We got nightlights from IKEA that are also wall art. My daughter has flowers, but they also had stars and moons. They're on a cord that's about 6 feet long.
