if he likes the Christmas tree why not just keep that. nothing wrong with having a little Christmas all year:)
Hi there! My son just turned 3 and until now he has had to have a little lamp on his room to sleep. We put a little Christmas tree in his room last week and turned off the lamp, and he is sleeping SO well with the darker room and glowing tree lights. Now I'm on the hunt for something to replace the Christmas tree after Christmas is over! Do you have any ideas?
thanks!!

String the Christmas lights up on the ceiling. Since he's used to them already he'll love the familiar comfort.
Small fish tank?
Real or artificial.
Or . . . get reflective moon and stars
at your local science museum gift shop (or from a catalog)
to put up on the ceiling. Make constellations or other designs.
Soothing gentle light along with beginning astronomy lessons.
When my kids were younger, I put Christmas lights in their room. It started just for the season but then stayed. They loved it. You can run them under the bed or put them around the doorway. They give off a soft light so they are great for that. You could also use a rope light. I used 3M hangers so I could easily take them off when needed. They eventually burned out and I did not replace them.
We use an LED nightlight that my sister in law bought from the dollar store. It only comes on at night. Works good for us. =)
Use the lights from the tree. If they can't be detached then buy a set of them & put them up around his room.
I like the ones that turn on at dusk and off at dawn.
I use the LED lights too.
A little bright but behind the rocker is good.
My daughter LOVES this:
The Ikea Spoka (http://tinyurl.com/y9opyr4)
We use one of the smaller led nightlights. It is enough light to see with, but not blinding. It works so well for my daughter. I got it at Target for $8 i think.
We just got our daughter a glow worm doll. She squeezes it and it lights up and she listens to the music (you can also turn it to just a light setting if you don't want him hooked on music) and it fades out. If she's still awake, she squeezes it again, until she falls asleep in a dark room.
We bought my four year old a GloMate when he was 1 year old. We are now on our second one- and he still has to have it on every night. It's a little pricey, but worth every penny.

ikea has the best options for lighting in a kid space
My girls love the glomate! We don't have the rechargable one but will get that for the next baby. I love the sleep timer on it.
A little fish tank with a light (although the one I got my son he complained was too loud). HaHa! He also received a strand of dinosaur lights from Kohls. They work nice.
We have one of these that my sons LOVES.

He turns it on by himself if he wakes up in the middle of the night.
The lights last for about 45min on their own before they turn off.
Just put a dim nightlight on the opposite side of the room from where he sleeps. My 3 y/o has one and I think I paid $5 for it at Walmart. We got the led kind that won't burn out.
you could find a lavender potpourri (or some scent that helps him sleep) and put it in a smallish fish bowl... string the Christmas lights in the bowl, as much against the bowl as possible. You can put a mesh-y material with a ribbon on top of that to seal it all in. Then at night, not only does it provide the night light, it will heat up and release the scent. :) I had one of these my aunt made me and loved it for years. (you will probably want to make sure you find a non-flammable potpourri though...) You could probably even get some puffy paint or something, and let your son decorate the fishbowl. :)
~OR~
use pipe cleaners and make a 'frame' for the Christmas lights... you could do a star, or the first letter of his name, or something like that and hang it on the wall.
Check out hearthsong.com (so much cool stuff there). They have plush turtles or lady bugs. They glow softly and project stars on the walls and ceiling. Not too bright or too dim. Really cute!
My 2yo son had a night light that plugged into the wall but it was so bright that it made shadows all over the room. One night he had a horrible episode, panic attack whatever you may call it. He was screaming and crying and pushing his way out of his room. I asked him what happened and he told me the dark man was in his bed. After investigating I realized there was a huge scary shadow right over his bed that looked like a man. So I went on a hunt for a new night light, what I ended up getting was a tent light from Academy sport. It's ran off of batteries so you can put it anywhere and it barely puts off any light. It is enough light that he feels comfortable but not enough that makes shadows on the wall. I love it!
My kids have a string of Christmas lights along the top of one wall in their rooms in lieu of a night light.
we have LED night lights, we bought them in a pack at Costco. They have 5 different color settings so you can pick the one that best lights the room. We go with blue, its bright enough for her but soothing enough that if she wakes up se can go back to sleep. It will also cycle through the colors if you let it. i cant remeber who makes them but will look later and let you know.
