Yes all are different. My daughter got a tiny zap from her nightlight one day when she woke up in the AM and started messing with it (she was 18 months at the time) so we took it out of her room and she didn't even seem to notice. My son, who is 3 and a half, will FLIP if he doesn't have one. I still like a night light when I sleep and I am 26 lol.

Dear M.,

They may tell you when they don't need it anymore, but it seems to me that it would be very helpful to you when you are checking on them at night. Dim it down gradually, that may help. C. N.

Since I needed the light from the hallway til I was 15 I would say it varies. My daughter is 13 and still has one. I can't tell you how I snapped out of it though. But my parents did always turn off the hallway light when they went to bed once we were asleep. If we woke up in the middle of the night we turned it back on. As an adult I like pitch black. I can't even stand the light from the digital clock.

We never used a night light until my older son was almost 4yrs old and told us he was afraid of the dark. He's now 7 and we now have 2 night lights as one wasn't enough for him. I'll leave it until he tells me he doesn't need it anymore.

I used to be afraid of the dark when I was little and I'm still not crazy about the dark. When my husband used to go out of town, I'd leave our bathroom night light on for me.

M.,
This might sound strange but even as an adult (35) I still have a night light. I was always a scaredy cat as a child and am better now. But I still have a light in my hallway. It makes me feel more secure.
