Nickel Sized Dry Irrated Spots

My 14 mth old daughter has a nickel sized dry irritated spot that almost looks like ring worm on her back that her doc says is just dry spots, eczema from dry weather. The only thing is that it is getting worse, very red and irritated and even oozing. She had one on her lower buttocks that healed by itself, maybe from diaper rash ointment? Have any of you other moms experienced this? Could it be allergy related? And what have you found to be the best way to heal it? Thanks for any info! =)

What can I do next?

A.,
My son has had very similar issues since he was a baby. We also thought it was allergy related. His pediatrician always said and still does say it is eczema and very sensitive skin. He is 8 years old now. He and I both have extremely sensitive skin. We both use AQUAFOR on a daily basis and it works miracles for us. We should own stock in the company. Not only is it petroleum based, but it has a mild healing antibiotic. It will not hurt her if she rubs it and accidentally gets a small amount in her mouth either...speaking from experience. My son gets it on his face/cheeks as well. Especially from very dry or very cold weather. I have been so pleased with AQUAFOR and couldn't live without it. You can buy a small tube at Walmart for around $5 or the pharmacist has always been willing to special order the very large tubs for us if they don't have it in stock. It costs $12-$15 and worth every penny! We also use it for mild scrapes and cuts...it works great. Good luck and I hope this helps...take care.

Was her in Cetaphil (or the Wally equiv) and use Eucerin (sp?) cream (also from Wally). I bet it will clear it up really soon.

If the oozing keeps up, it may have gotten infected. You should take her in for that is Neosporin doesn't clear it up.

I agree with Elizabeth G. My daughter is 5 and has had eczema since she was 6 mos. We've tried everything from the RX steroidal creams to everything over the counter and in all honesty, the Disney Gentle Naturals Baby Exzema Cream is what worked the BEST! They also have a body wash that you could use with the cream. Not only to Walmart and Target carry it, I have also seen it at Walgreens!! FYI, the Eucerin Aquaphor works SO well for dry, chapped lips!
Good luck! If you find something that works well, I'd like to hear about it...it's always nice to find new things!! =)

I just saw something about how antibiotic overuse can lead to fungus growth. Could it be something like that? Most MD's don't think about that. I think it was on channel 8.

I treated both of my kids with acupuncture (well, acupressure, since the doc didn't use needles on them), and it helped immensely. Dr. Steve Homoky, Coit & Spring Creek, is great with them. ###-###-####.

My son gets these on his back and legs sometimes. It is just dry, sensitive skin. Rub some Eucerin Aquaphor ointment(not lotion, but the thick petrolium jelly type ointment) on it several times a day and it should clear up in a week.

Disney Gentle Naturals Baby Exzema Cream worked great for my daughter. You can find it at Target or Walmart in the baby aisle with all the baby products. I would apply it on her dry irritated areas right after a bath and it seemed to soothe her and minimize the redness and dryness, its a thick rich cream and its natural and it worked wonders for my little one. Good luck!

Did you see your pediatrician or a dermatologist? If it was your pedie I'm sure you have a good doc, but sometimes you need to see the right doc. Get the name of a good childs dermatologist. Karen Lund in plano is great if you can get in to see her.
