My son had very awkward breathing pattern when he was 2 weeks old, when we took him to the doctor he said it was normal , new borns sometimes do that .
But i would suggest ask the doctor once.

Yes, very normal. When I brought my oldest son home, I stood over him and watch him breath for hours. If you're ever concerned, you should be able to call your pediatricians office 24/7 and inquire. Good luck, and enjoy your new little one :)

Hi! Congratulations on your new baby! This is pretty normal but I would keep him always near me until it is more even. There are little alarm systems now that can alert you if he is sleeping like in the next room but even better is right with you. A front pack is wonderful for the first several months, facing you. There are some cool wraps here on this site for carrying and nursing your baby.

Yes. It's called periodic breathing. My son did it when he was sleeping until he was 7 months old. I know it's scary, but normal. Ask your pediatrician if it will calm your fears and just to make sure.

Hi R.,

I was worried about the same thing, I thought he may have sleep apnea or something... his pediatrician said that it's perfectly normal for newborns. That being said- when it comes to breathing, don't take chances... ask your doctor.

This sounds like what is common in newborns, but don't hesitate to talk to your doctor to make sure that there's nothing else happening. They take cues from the people around them with their breathing, especially when sleeping, so keep him close to you (preferably where he can touch, smell and hear you) so that he will have a constant connection until his breathing becomes more mature.

First of all congrats on your new baby!! Id say call your pediatrician and just make sure that is normal, did he just start doing that? If he seems like he is having trouble breathing i would take him to ER~!

Good luck and enjoy your baby!!

Newborns do have irregularities in their breathing patterns, but if you are concerned, it's perfectly fine to contact your baby's doctor!
