Hi Ivana,
snuggles, kisses, hugs, fingers, singing to her/him, baths, lotion-rubs.

I'm not just being sappy: babies need *a lot* of human contact from parents when they are born. Store-bought toys don't do 3% of what mommy can :)

As several ladies have mentioned you are the best toy I will add that reading books is also great. Black, white and red colors are the best for a newborn. There are a couple out there. Also, the links are good for them to hold on to as they discover their grips. Enjoy!

Hanging baby-safe mirrors, soft rattle with a good grip, and black/white mobile. But most newborns don't really pay attention to anything until they're about 1-3 months. Your face is what entertains them the most.

You! Newborns are fascinated by faces and voices and gentle touch! They also like high-contrast (black and white and red) bold patterns and mirrors. At birth, infants focus best at objects (or faces) that are about the same distance from their eyes as a mother's face is from an infant's eyes when the infant is nursing. (Probably not a coincidence.) But really, this is a chance to get to know your baby and that mommy-baby face time (or daddy-baby) is wonderful and better than any toy. Have fun!

I agree with Kate. I used to just wave my fingers in front of my son's face, or take a scarf and touch his skin, etc. They can't see that well right away and you just making faces with the baby and talking and cooing to him/her is enough of playtime for them. However, I did have a playmat that I used from about 8 weeks on (once he started batting at objects). I guess that would be my son's "earliest" toy.

For a newborn baby I think a high contrast (black and white) mobile with music. At one month old a playmat again with high contrast colors. Around 6 months my dd favorite toy was a Jumparoo.
But I agree with the other mom, a new born fav thing to watch is momy face

The first thing my son was really interested in was a play mat that had things hanging from overhead on bars, and things attached to the mat for tummytime. He didnt show much interest in that until 2-3 mos. They don't really play before that. If you are looking for a baby gift, the playmat is a great idea. Lots of new parents get all the newborn stuff they need, but when it comes to things for the older baby they don't have them.

I would not waste your money on toys just yet , around 3/4 months they become interested in toys that make a noise for example a rattle , but they don't pay attention for that long. A play mat with hanging toys above are good from 3 months or so , when they begin to pay attention to colors.

Nothing. Newborns don't play yet. Maybe you want to buy some books for when the're older.

Boob and faces. Newborns can't see much or do much, it's pointless to buy a toy for them.

No toys are best for a newborn. They really dont care. Things that they can focus on are going to be red, black, or white. But you dont want to overstimulate them. Good luck.

They really don't play with toys when they are so fresh. But, you can get the parents diapers, I know when I had my little girl, the extra packages of diapers really helped. But, any toy that will help develop the baby's eyes are always good.
