My two year old have expressed interest in using the potty. He really only wants to flush it. I thought I would let him flush it to get used to the idea of the potty, But he just won't use it. Any ideas would be well come.

What can I do next?

When he poops in the diaper, you can always bring him to the bathroom and dump the poop and let him flush it and then let him wash his hands.

Getting a little potty for him will help, I put the potty chair in the livingroom so he seen it all the time and let him play around on it. I sat him on it with no diaper and let him play with the laptop, you can always give him a book to read. When he pees or poops make a huge deal, do high fives, say mommy is sooo proud of you. It will take time, but keep it consistent, he will get it eventually. Let him see you and daddy go potty it will help him on what he needs to do.

I've been doing this for 20 years....& it's just easier on everyone involved if you WAIT for signs of readiness. It's very easy to confuse curiosity with taking diapers on/off & how the bathroom works....with actual recognition or awareness of body functions. With my childcare moms, one thing I really try to promote is NOT letting your child treat the potty seat as a toy or NOT allowing your child to sit on it for extended lengths of time (reading book after book). It's not a toy & belongs in the bathroom.

Sooo, when you see your son grabbing his diaper either right before/during/or immediately after wetting it....then you know he's ready. Everything else is usually just curiosity.

I wish you the best!

To him the fun part is flushing... make that a reward only. He can't flush the toilet unless he uses it. Then he can flush. Don't give in even if he throws a fit. Just stick with it, if he uses the toilet let him flush it.

My son is almost 3 and not even close to potty training. He some special needs though. For you try putting the potty chair in front of the tv and just let him sit there. You can also let them try to go outside. Let them watch a guy go outside and "it might be cool".lol You could also try putting him in regular underware and take him every 30 or so and then when he goes praise him praise him praise him. good luck

good suggestions...mine would be, at 2 he may not be ready. most little ones aren't at that age. i'd let it rest. if he's ready you'll know. good luck.

Use the flushing as a reward...either get the little piddlers or put a bowl of Cheerios by the toilet...have him toss one in and try to pee on it...it'll make it a fun game and get him doing what he needs to do! :)
