My 12 year old daughter is trying to pull out her teeth before she has to have them pulled by the dentist but one of them has the new tooth growing over it... Her tooth is barely loose and the new tooth has just broken the gum. I was wondering if anyone has advice for a situation like this.

What can I do next?

That happened to my oldest with almost all of his front baby teeth...the new teeth grew in behind the babies. The dentist said not to worry the baby will come out eventually and the adult will move into position, and he was right. No pulling required.

I suggest that this is a question you need to ask her dentist. It's just a phone call and you'll be sure.

It's called 'shark teeth'.
Most likely the dentist will have to pull the baby tooth.
Here's why.
What's suppose to happen is the adult tooth comes up beneath the baby tooth.
As the adult tooth forms up it dissolves the root of the baby tooth which allows it to loosen, wiggle and fall out.
When the adult tooth come up next to or beside the baby tooth the baby tooth's root is not dissolved (or is only partially dissolved).
Baby tooth roots are just as firm and have nerves just like any other tooth.
So if it's not dissolved, it's exactly like your daughter is trying to pull out an adult tooth on her own - which can be very painful!
Best just to let the dentist remove it.
My son had several baby teeth that had to come out this way.
And he had one baby tooth where the root didn't dissolve completely enough so that a fragment was left when the rest of the baby tooth came out.
The dentist had to remove the fragment.
Teeth that are in front or behind other teeth are harder to keep clean and you don't want the adult tooth to start developing cavities.

Every one but one single tooth my oldest has lost the adult tooth has already come in before the baby tooth fell out.
The dentist said to save our money, that you don't need to pull the baby tooth. Just have her work on wiggling the baby tooth and it will come out. The adult tooth dissolves the root of the baby tooth to get it out.

She actually might hurt the adult tooth if it's not loose enough to come out yet. I'd just tell her she needs to let the dentist pull the teeth. She'll feel better in a couple of days and be going about her business and be done.

This has happen to all my children except three what happened is the tooth that's the adult tooth it comes through n breaks the root cuts through but doesn't allow the other tooth to come out. Also if it was loose at one time the baby and it wasn't worked the gum can actually re adheres to tooth and keep it in there. So the end result is the dentist needs to pull it. If it doesn't get pulled there's alot of different issues can happen n to be honest the most important is pain and discomfort. You really should get her an appt to get them pulled. I had be daughter who had to have all hers pulled cuz the large ones came in behind or in front it was painful for her that's how I learned all this I'm sharing with you!

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle!
You need to get that tooth out before the other one comes in. Trust me on that. My daughter had to have one dug out and it wasn't fun.

Tell her to push in on the old tooth. That will help loosen it. My son was able to get one of his teeth out by doing that. The rest have had to be pulled by the dentist.

yes - she needs to TWIST the tooth instead of just pushing it back and forth.

Don't worry - she has a good couple of months before you need to worry. However, she needs to REALLY keep it clean in between the teeth, where the new one is coming in over the baby tooth. If she doesn't brush really well she can get decay on the adult tooth and it will be on the FRONT side of the tooth, which will be unsightly.

My daughter's dentist gave her like 3 months to get the baby tooth out. Just tell her to work at it every day all the time whenever she thinks about it.
