I am a new Mom with a one month old. Planning to stay home with him for awhile and wondering if there are any new mom groups in the area?

What can I do next?

Through meetup.com Downers Grove just started a moms group. I just joined and the moms seem nice and friendly. I know that it is a bit far but I am also in the Elmhurst meetup and that one is nice too.

My sister-in-law went to a new mom's group that was free at Good Samaritan Hospital. She liked that a lot.

Good luck to you!

Edward Hospital has a great new mother's group called Cradle Talk. It's a drop in group once a week. I believe Good Samaritan also does. I went to cradle talk with my first son and was able to meet some other mom's there to form a play group with.

Welcome to motherhood! Try meetup.com. They have area-specific mom groups all over the Chicagoland area. Most of the groups have message boards too, which are a great resource.

I joined a meetup mom group when my daughter was a little over a year old. Most of the moms were pretty nice, but the lady who ran the group was a little odd and she didn't put activities on the calendar. There were a few play dates where I felt like I made an effort to get in on conversations, and some of the moms turned their backs on me and ignored me. A few months later, I joined a different mom group, and I clicked a lot better with those moms. I am no longer part of the group, but I am good friends with some of the moms I met through the group.

Since you are a new mom, definitely try to find a group who are mostly new moms too. When moms have more than one child, they tend to stick with the friends they made when their firstborn was a baby. And don't be discouraged if you don't like the moms in one group. It is trial and error just like any everything else. You will meet competitive moms, moms who don't care if their child hits your child, and other drama mommas. Just keep putting yourself out there and make sure you leave the house a couple times a week. I think I drove my husband insane for the first few months after my daughter was born because I had no adult interaction besides him :-)

Good luck to you! Motherhood is so much better when you have friends in the same boat.
