New Blanket for Preschool Naptime

I need some suggestions for a blanket for my 4 year old. Every week, my four year old's daycare teacher sends her blanket home, so we can wash it. We've been using various fleece blankets, and they're now all hard with lots of nubbies on them from all the washing. My daughter isn't attached to her blankets, and I'd love to get one that's easy to care for but wears very well. The fleece ones just aren't cutting it. Any suggestions for a particular kind of material or brand of kids blanket that might age well? Let me know if any of you have a favorite kids blanket. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I always find that if you can get a good quality cotton comforter, maybe the toddler bed size, they just get softer and softer with each wash. You have to steer clear of the character comforter sets from walmart, etc., as they are just not soft at all. But I have found that an inexpensive option is the Circo brand from Target. They do seem to be the softer cotton type, that soften with each wash. My son has Circo bed sheets and comforter on his bed, and they are just getting softer and softer... :) My son still has a crib comforter that someone bought him as a gift when he was born - it wasn't the one that went with our nursery ensemble, so we just used it multi-purposedly, as a blanket to lay him on on the floor, or just for him to play around with - which he still does... He has a fettish for blankets - LOL, so we have many, fleece, velvety soft ones, cotton, crocheted, etc., and that old cotton comforter is the softest one he has! Nice cotton will just wash to be so soft!

Our daycare blankets are the thermal blankets. (I think that is what they are called, the texture reminds me of crinkle cut fries). We have two, so that we can rotate for washing and they have lasted 2.5 years now. I also recently discovered the Aiden and Anais ones that are really nice, and may do that for my daughter.

Not sure why, but of all the blankets we've had over the years, the hand knitted and crocheted ones last forever and stay soft. I'm not sure what type of yard is used, but two of them are like plush and have washed well also.

There are also nap mats that are a cross between a blanket and a sleeping bag that roll up into a backpack.

Here's one: http://www.littledudesanddivas.com/wknmprncs.html

My daughter had one that she liked, she did grow out of it fast, so be sure you know the measurements before buying.

Is there a Gymboree in your area? They have all kinds of blankets.

We bought our daughter 2 blankets there and even though they were a bit more pricey than Target/Walmart, they are still in good condition 10 years later!

When my DS was born that is where I bought his super soft/warm blanket and he is now 5. 5 years later his is still looking great too.

Good luck finding just the right blanket!

How about flannel. That's pretty soft and warm too.

I have about 10 of those ultra soft blankets with different characters on them that various family members have given to my daughter over the years for birthdays and Christmas. They keep pretty well and stay soft so they are worth the money.
