New Airport Rules??

We will be traveling by plane soon and I wanted to know if anyone can tell me what the new rules are? I know you can't bring liquids unless they are in plastic baggies and less than 3 oz. (what exactly will a plastic bag to, anyway?!). But, with the two kids, I usually bring lots of snacks and drinks...is this still OK? Can I bring a cup with juice or water in it? Or, will the cup have to be empty and we have to spend a fortune to buy the juice and water once through security? Can I still bring snacks in baggies, like Goldfish and such?

Thanks for the help, Mamas!

What can I do next?

yep, you will have to fill the sippy cups inside the airport..sorry! And I would recommend putting the kids in flip flops or crocs, something that you can get on and off quickly and easily. Snacks are fine though, so pack some fun things that will occupy them. Suckers, twizzlers and smarties have saved us many times. Be careful about over packing and having too many choices of toys. Do you have a leapster or something similar for your 4 year old? That was a life saver for us! good luck on your trip! ~A.~

Hi S. -
We just got back from Southern Cal with my 2 1/2 year old twins. I packed a backpack for each of them with lots of toys, "washable" crayons that wiped off of the airplane they colored all over-UGH! and snacks, goldfish, pretzels, graham crakers, etc. You have to bring empty sippy cups and fill them inside the airport. I also took their shoes and belts off and put them in their bags ahead of time. It helped some, but getting through security with my monsters was a nightmare! Everything else was a breeze!
Good luck, and enjoy your trip

FYI - The 3oz also means toothpaste...ugh! Also, if the baggy is not quart size (meaning larger) they will take it and give you a smaller one and everything has to fit in there. Also, this is only for carry ons...checking your luggage is a different story!

Good luck and have a great trip!

All your liquids must fit into a quart size bag. They are supposed to be 3 oz. or less. This includes lotions and drinks. They will take away anything that won't fit in the bag and doesn't follow guidelines.

You can bring snacks.

Have a great trip!

The plastic bag is to make it easy for airport employees to see the contents of the bag, as well as to keep everything in one place so you're not searching through your bag for 5 bottles of shampoo and lotion, all in different places.

You can bring all of the snacks you like. For drinks, I recommend bringing an empty sippy cup, then asking the flight attendant to fill it with juice/water prior to takeoff. I've done this many times, and they've always accommodated me without an issue.

We travel a lot with our 18-month old. He loves to look out the window and watch evertyhing that is going on. Books are good and hand snacks (gold fish, cheerios). One thing that I learned on our last trip is when asking at check in about the food I was bringing (jarred baby food). There happened to be a TSA agent talking to the person checking me in. We asked her. She said whatever was reasonable amount of food for the trip could be brought. Then she said, it really depends who you get when you go through security! Yeek! So, when it comes to baby food and related items it appears that it is completely subjective! I am sure you can bring whatever is reasonable. You will have to buy juice/milk/water on the other side before getting on the plane though.

One other tip, I carry several $5 Starbucks gift cards with me. When someone goes out of their way for us, I give it to them. It isn't much, but when you are loaded down with car seat, stroller, luggage and worrying about food/water for your kid, anyone who goes above and beyond for us I like to thank in this way.

Good luck!
