I fell and cracked my head open 5 days ago. I had to have 22 stitches, some inside some out. My face was cut up along with my lip and hand. But the major injury was my head trauma. Thats where I had the stitches. On my forehead. Well I noticed that I no longer have any sensation to half of my head. The doctor said it could be permanent and that it's from major nerve damage. I was so emotional that I forgot to ask him about my hair. So this has been very depressing from the start. I looked like I was in a major car wreck it was so bad. Can anyone tell me if my hair will fall out, and will it continue to grow? I'm so scared
I just wanted to say THANK YOU! to you ladies that left some insight and hope for me. I feel better knowing that other people had their hair grow after major trauma and nerve damage on thier head. Gives me hope;) I am starting to gain my confidence back, things are healing as nice as they can I guess. But my doctor also reffered me to a plastic surgeon...Dr. Volshteyn? He says he might be able to make my scars less visible. So we'll see what happens. Does anyone know of this surgeon by the way? Thank you again...and it's good to meet fellow moms and single moms in the same area.

You poor thing, I'm so sorry this happened to you, but the good news is your hair should grow back. It will grow over the scar not through it. The nerve damage should not affect your hair growth. I know a lovely woman who was pushed through a window of a second story and she has severe nerve damage and scarring, but the hair still grew.

I don't know if the hair will grow back or not, but I hope you feel better soon! You could always call your GP and tell them what happened. I'm sure they could tell you about the hair.
Hi J., sorry to say I don't know much about head injuries, usually hair doesn't grow back fully on a scar but I would think that hair folicles are seperate from nerves! I am also sorry you had to suffer this injury!
I am also in the Reno/Sparks area, I'm 26 and a single mom of 2 girls, working and going to school. If you want to talk or need anything let me know. Also if you are a single mom I facilitate a support group for single moms at Sparks Christian Fellowship on Greenbrae Dr. on Tuesday nights from 7-8:15 or so and it is an open group, you can come any time.
