Neighbor’s House

Let’s say your neighbor’s house was infested with bed bugs and having problems with carpet beetles. She has told you that the whole family has tons of bites and they have paid a lot of money to get rid of them to no avail. She has said that bed bugs multiply like crazy and are nearly impossible to get rid of.

Anyway, let’s say your child is friends with her child and she calls asking if your child can go over and play because it’s too cold outside, would you let them? Or would you suggest her child go over to your house?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies! I feel so much better!!!!

My neighbor called a couple of times asking if my son could go over to her house but I made excuses why my Son could not play. Then this morning I was wondering if I should have at least invited her son over so I was feeling bad.

They have spent the last 6 months and a lot of money trying to get rid of the bed bugs. It has been a nightmare for them. This weekend as my kids and I were getting back from the store she came out and said that they are now finding carpet beetles in her house!!

Next time she calls I was planning on saying that it was absolutely no offense to her or her family but that my son cannot go over until everything has cleared up. I do NOT want to take the chance of a bed bug making their way to my house!

Thanks again!!!!

I would not let my child go play at that house and I wouldn't let the other child into my home either. Not until the bugs are gone! It may sound mean, but those little critters are not easy to get rid of!!
And I wouldn't suggest a play place either ~ if the child does have the bugs on himself or his clothers, imagine how many other children he could give them to.

I would not let their child in your house. If you let your child go to their house, have them undress immediately when arriving home in a location without carpeting or cloth. Clothing can be sealed in a plastic bag.

Then, bedbugs can be killed on clothing by putting them directly in the washer in hot water and then the dryer and running them through a cycle on hot. Another solution is to freeze the clothing, but it needs to be below 23 degrees for at least 5 days.

Here's where I found that information: http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/housingandcloth...

No way would I allow my child into that house. And to be completely truthful, I really wouldn't want the kid at my house either, if there's a possibility of the child bringing pests with him/her. Sorry--just being honest.

no.
No.
Those kids can bring it over to your house.
Do not let them enter your home.
Or, if they are playing together elsewhere... due to those kids maybe carrying it on their clothing.. .it can be spread anywhere.
I wonder... if they can then spread it to school too?
I don't know.

But do not let them IN your house.
Nor let your kids go there.

No there would be no playing at either house. I would probably opt for taking them out to some kind of indoor play area. Some McDonald's have them in my area. So does Ikea and there is always places like Chuck E. Cheese but there would be no playing in the house.

No I wouldn't. Your child could bring them back to your house! Plus even if you let the other child come over.....eeeehhhh doesn't sound good to me. If it's too cold.... I don't know. On nice days, they can play outside together. How sad!

I would not let my child into their house and I would not let their child into my house. Bed bugs are crazy hard to get rid of. Just one little bed bug getting on your child's pant leg can infest your home.
